30. Jive Talkin'-Bee Gees

I've never hear numbers 11, 12, 16, 26, 27 or 28.

Most of the others seems like songs you would have heard on the 1970s daytime WSM. But I wonder if they really played Philadelphia Freedom, Take Me In Your Arms, Walkin' In Rhythm or Jive Talkin. I just can't imagine those songs coming out of the radio at 650.

I've heard an aircheck of Sajak from a month after this survey when the Blaw-Knox radiated Van McCoy's "The Hustle". By the way, Sajak sounded great on WSM.

The radio business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.</P>

It's a real shame that today's Oldies formats only allow for about 25% of the music that was on Top 40 radio back in the day. Find me a station that plays 100%, and THAT'S an Oldies station that would have my loyal listnership. (I suppose a station that even played the songs that didn't make the Top 40 would be way too much to ask for.)

Believe it. I was crosstown at WSIX at the time but several
good friends of mine worked over at Knob Road. In the
mid-70's, WSM was a fairly edgy hot AC. On AM 650, you'd
hear Steely Dan, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Doobie Brothers,
Abba, Lou Rawls. It was only on the Opry though, that you'd
hear James Brown! :)

Would that explain how SM 95 evolved? That was a very cool station.

Nock

And here is an aircheck from that lost era of Radio 65 featuring Ted Johnson.

Enjoy.

Nock,

Yahoo Groups has a site dedicated to SM95, its music and a listener forum. A couple of former SM95 jocks run the site. You may want to take a peek.
