WSMI 106.1

Is there a better overall station out there? I lived in the WSMI listening area when I was a child and frequently visit the area. The station has (for the most part) remained unchanged after several decades. Their focus on the area is unmatched. Their country music playlists on the AM and FM sides are enormous. Their hourly structure makes for easy listening (instead of 10 minutes of commercials, they will throw a commercial in between a few songs throughout the hour.)

When you spend time away and listen to radio in other areas of the country (Columbus, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia for me specifically) you really have to appreciate what Talley Broadcasting continues to do. It will be a sad, sad day if they ever make drastic changes within the building on Route 16 between Litchfield and Hillsboro.

I don’t know if I'd call it good radio, but WSMI does superserve its listening area. I've actually heard some really bad broadcasting on that station, but I'll give it credit for being authentic and genuine.

I used to really enjoy its Saturday night karaoke show. If there was anything more authentic and more local on the radio, I don’t know where else you'd find it. Unfortunately, the station pulled it after Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction during the Super Bowl in 2004. Sometimes, those singers would stray from the lyrics and could drop an expletive or veer into the risqué, and the station decided it didn’t want to risk antagonizing the Bush FCC.
