WSMJ (1970's) NIGHT ACTION THEME

I thought that Art had used a Deodato track for the open. But memory is fading fast. Maybe I'm thinking of the track used on the high school sports open.

Okay...since we're talking themes on WSMJ - a 50,000 watt friend no-prize to the first who can identify what song Tony "Dave Anthony" Giltner signed off with each morning. Extra points if you can identify what Ralph Adams used for his theme on "Jazz (dramatic pause...wait for it...wait for it) Perspective."

And is the story true? Did Gary Lee lose his job on Night Action by falling asleep on the air?

Found some tape of Art. Neither Mauriat or Deodato for the theme this night. It's an instr. cover of "Gentle On My Mind." This is early in Art's time high atop the banks of lovely Potts Ditch. Station GM Tom Romine voiced the open. It's a lo-fi mp3 that lasts about 6 mins. Anyone who ever worked in the Braden Musiplex days of WSMJ will cringe at the sound of the subcarrier music service tape rewinding in the background.

By the way, I neglected to offer a big thank you for your earlier upload of the Mauriat piece.

Interesting. The version of "Gentle On My Mind" is Paul Mauriat from the same L.P. as Black Harlem ;)

Thanks for that. I remember thinking it was perfect for news talk due to the urgency of the instruments and a near teletype beat. Staying up all night in the summer of 76 listening to Larry and calling him to guess about the republican presidential contest almost cost me my summer job from lack of sleep. Ford or Reagan? Dole or Schweiker? Or would Reagan win with Ford as VP nominee? I was a Carter volunteer but it was great drama. Larry was a great host.
