WSM's Bob Randall

just got word from a fried....Bob (Mongold) Randall, long-time voice anchor on WSM radio has passed away. He lived in Hermitage, no arraignment yet. When Bob read the news you believed it. He loved fishing and the biz...until the biz started changing. He, in spite of his nick names (the gurmp, grouch, etc) was one of the nicest and most talented guys I had the pleasure of working with. REST IN PEACE, RANGER BOB

Buddy, was he always only in news? I swear he was at one of the big Top 40 AM stations years ago (maybe the news at LAC???) Sad to hear this news.

No...Bob only did news here after beginning his career in Iowa. Bob never 'read' the news....he delivered it...correctly. Didn't comment, didn't try to be funny, except when it was a funny story, and he could pull it off...like a pro, because he was. There are people on the air here now who READ

(wrong key) to finish the thought, there are people on the air here now who READ and don't have a clue what they read. There are, in my opinion, a couple of pros in town and you can identify them.
Once at WSM we had a G-M who told us to go to the Metro Courthouse and find someone in one of the restrooms or lunch room and teach them news. This is the same one who told our news director awards (it was a Peabody) don't mean anything but getting your mike flag in the news paper meant more. From some of the news readers I hear -- I think he must still be in town

Isn't arraignment something that happens when you get arrested?

Bobonthejob was correct
Isn't arraignment something that happens when you get arrested?
And spew is partially correct
If Buddy Sadler shows up at your house it's time to prepare your last will and testament.
Bob caught me right away...my only defense, I usually write copy for me to read...
and spew....if I invite you to a reunion of old farts...you could be in that age group who need a will. My regrets are that I haven't been to see or talk to a number of my peers who have passed
