WSNI Moves Closer To Keene

WSNI-FM 97.7 has anapplication to change its City of License to Swanzea, NH (from Winchendon,MA) and install a new non-directional antenna. In fact, if the map is accurate, the antenna is IN Keene...why not have a COL of Keene?

There are already radio stations licnesed to Keene, to the FCC, it would be Swansea's first local FM service. Even though the station would be a Keene station regardless of the COL.

WSNI's transmitter was just recently relocated to Fitzwilliam NH, slightly directionalized to allow for what is now WKAF (97.7 Brockton) to move their site to Milton MA. The studios are in Keene, but if SNI's COL changes the transmitter site won't.
The non DA antenna pattern was long before the deal with Radio One in Brockton. An amended app will be filed with the new pattern.
The FCC still maintains the polite fiction of COL's and "first local service". What garbage, but those are the rules.

That would be Swanzey. Don't know why, but that's how they spell it.

If anyone's interested, turns out I'm wrong re: WSNI's COL change. If the move to Swanzey is granted the xmtr site will move closer to or possibly in Keene and be omnidirectional again. A quick look at a map shows the WINQ (98.7 Winchester) site in Keene would probably work.

The new Fybush column details the COL (and in some cases freq) changes:

http://www.fybush.com/nerw.html

proposals etc.:
WTSM 93.5 Springfield VT to Swanzey NH, class A

WVRR 101.7 Newport NH to Westminster VT at 101.9, class A

WSNI 97.7 Winchendon MA to Swanzey NH

new 98.7 applies for "Bretton Woods NH" (xmtr on Mt. Wash.!)
93.7 Groveton NH moving to Littleton NH

40 watts from Mt Washington! ;D That signal will be useless! Hitting nothing but trees! They's be better off staying in Stratford and serving Groveton, Lancaster and Colebrook,, Everyone would listen since NOTHING else comes in but PKQ, HOM and sometimes XSS. Wow, Claremont is really getting screwed here, eh? Looks like a lot of folks in Claremont will be investing in XM! I wonder if WBHG in Meredith can now move up to a C3?

For what it's worth, WSNI has applied to diplex (combine signals) with the WINQ transmitter on West Hill in Keene.

I know WNSI wants to move to the WINQ site, but I'm not sure 97.7 and 98.7 can be diplexed being so close together. The current tower won't support another antenna but another tower at that site (if you can get by the NIMBYS) would work and have space to rent to WTSM if/when it moves, cell antennas, police/fire, etc (nice source of $$) as opposed to expensive diplexing equipment, a very expensive new antenna system and both stations being off-air in the event of a major failure.

the signal for 98.7 will pobably go out far.. but the signal outside a car will be hard to pick up tho... (absortion will suck) if any of you are ever in the new haven CT area look at 104.5 LP (1watt) long Island you can pick that station up to about 40 miles away!

with 97.7 moving wont that get in the way with WGmt 97.7 Burke mtn/lyndonville?

No, 97.7 in Keene will not mess with 97.7 in Lyndonville. They are way too far apart. WGMT does not get as far south as Lebanon(listenable at least) and 97.7 in Keene will be lucky if it makes it as far north as Claremont! No problem. But, as I mentioned before, I'd love to see 101.5 in Meredith upgrade now. Hello, Nassau, are you listening?

101.5 in Meredith cannot upgrade as they are hemmed in by first and second adjacent signals. As I understand it, it was a pretty close fit in the first place. If I owned Nassau I'd put WLNH on the 101.5/102.3 simulcast and use the 98.3 for a rocker. I'd also consider the 104.9 signal for a FM talk format...but it would be a hard road to profit the way spot rates are there.

Absolutley can be done. It's being done not more than 50 miles away in Rutland where WZRT 97.1 and WJJR 98.1 are diplexed into the same exact style antenna specified on the Form 301 applied for by WSNI. Removing WINQ's 3 bay antenna for a broadband 2 bay antenna will not increase any loading.
