WSNT/Sandersville

Interesting. The FCC database shows the allocation of channel 260A (99.9, Class A) to Sandersville, GA, and shows it with a callsign of DWSNT-FM. However, I cannot find a record of a station licensed on that channel in Sandersville, but a quick Google search turns up a number for WSNT-FM, and when I called, they answered.

I also find no record of an AM license in Sandersville, GA.

I do note that WJFL/Tennille (FM) had an assignment granted in 2004.

That pretty much wraps up what I've found for Washington County, Georgia.

Either the database is screwed up (a definite possibility) or there's a pirate on the air in Sandersville!

WSNT ,and several other Ga.stations were late filing their renewals last year. That might have something to do with it.

I know there USED to be an AM is Sandersville. Can't remember the call letters, but it was once owned by the late country star Webb Pierce. He also owned AMs in Swainsboro (WJAT) and Waynesboro (WBRO).

Pierce was known for his lavish Nashville mansion, which featured a guitar-shaped swimming pool.

Webb Pierce has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 2001 he was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame .

There was an AM there, WSNT. As of last night, when I last queried the FCC database, there was no full service radio licensed to Sandersville.

The 'D' in front of the call sign stands for Deleted. A result of not sending in the license renewal. When it happened (late summer 2005, if I remember correctly?) they were going to operate under an STA while the license renewal was being straightened out. The story was that they would eventually be relicensed. A few other stations around the country were in the same situation. Both WSNT (ESPN) and WSNT-FM (ABC Real Country) are still operating.

That WJFL assignment was never completed, though the application remains in the database.

WBRO went dark a few years ago, and lost its license after a year. Noticed an application for a new Waynesboro AM about a year ago.
