WSOC?

Three things happened....

1) "New" country. WSOC abandoned all of their heritage music to follow that trend a few years back. They lost listeners to WFMX, and then to satellite radio. Their relatively recent re-adding of classic country songs has not brought that audience back.

2) Jeff Roper. His morning show split the audience. Half of them was alienated when he came, the other half was alienated when he left. Neither have returned for the new morning team.

3) Paul Schadt. WSOC brought him up from overnight guy to morning-show talent, then didn't give him the morning show. WKKT did...and he brought lots of fans with him.

It has just taken until now for all of these bad moves on their part to settle in to permanent ratings erosion. As you know, things change slowly with country stations.

IF he was interested, would bringing back a heritage Charlotte country voice like Edd Robinson help?
Just a thought...he was at WSOC until what, the early 80s? And speaking of WSOC, I heard Mike Terry on WSM(Nashville) about a year ago...I had wondered where he'd gone.

Bringing back Edd would be WICKED awesome! I worked at WFMX for 7 years. I did the morning show with Keith Todd up until this time last year.

Edd is SUCH a super cool guy, cosumate professional, all around a great guy and great personality... Edd's not a JOCK in my opinion.

As for the current morning guy, Rob Tanner. Super nice guy!!! Keith and I met him last year at the CMT Music Awards. Could not have asked for someone nicer. Doesn't act like a lot of radio guys do in Charlotte, you know... cocky??? Rob has NOT of that.

I just wish they could do better. I haven't listened to them in forever b/c I'm in Roanoke, VA now, but I heard that Kara Edwards left... Is anyone consulting the station???

Paul was doing mornings at WSOC but left because WKKT offered more money. Someone said Paul wanted to make more than Bob Lacey. Not realizing of course that Bob and Shari are on a network of stations!

I worked with Edd when I first came to town. He couldn't have been nicer. Edd is also very in to Country Music, he knows more than most. Edd is well past retirement age even though he doesn't sound like it. For those who don't remember, prior to WSOC Edd was the program director of WAME 1480 in Charlotte. He also worked in New York City Radio at WPIX-FM.

I keep thinking that Bill Ellis might come back to Charlotte some day. He left WSOC to go to WSSL in Greenville, SC. Former WSOC sales manager John Cullen got him down there. John kept rising through the ranks of the group that became Clear Channel....to think I knew him when!

Bill Ellis has created his own long running dynasty at WSSL so I guess he won't be returning even though he grew up in Charlotte. Ellis and Shadt have been friends for a lot of years so I don't see them competing against each other....it would be interesting though!
