WSOM/600 Salem Goes Talk

It looks like the Youngstown market is about to go from two standards stations to zero.

On the heels of the upcoming change to sports at Clear Channel's WNIO/1390 (to become "The Sports Animal" 12/27), Cumulus has apparently flipped WSOM/600 Salem to "News Talk 600".

It is carrying, we're told, shows like Glenn Beck and Michael Savage, among the many syndicated shows not cleared by Clear Channel Youngstown talker WKBN/570.

I'm listening to the WSOM web feed now, and there's some talk show on that I don't recognize.

It sure has been an interesting last 4 months of 2010 with 4 stations changing formats. All AM's I might add. If you add in K-Love on WEXC, that would make 5.

Two AM's gave up almost a 5 share in the market. My only concern is the age of that demo. But it might be too good to pass up.

Classic Top 40 on FM (if available) and Scott Shannon's True Oldies on AM. Musically, for AM, it's your best bet.

i was a factory worker in the late '60's, and WSOM use to be played on the floor. I remember alot of organ music. I guess i'm getting old ;)

I have a station ID that a friend gave me of WSOM from the 1960's..Here verbatim, is what the ID said:

"This is WSOM, The Wonderful Sound Of Music In Salem, Ohio..The Prestige Station In Eastern Ohio"..I imagine they might have played a little organ music in that day..
