WSOS AM 1170. No more oldies. SS now.

I was in St. Augustine, FL the other day and noted on 1170 a prediction from a friend in the biz came true.

1170 WSOS St. Augustine Beach, FL (Stratton Rd St. Aug Studio/Xmtr) is now playing Hispanic Music.

Goodbye Oldies in AM stereo. It was fun while it was lasted. Norsan Broadcasting bought the station apparently (the owners - operators of Jax area's AM 1160-970-1570.

Skinny Albert
1570 and 970 alum.

There had been some kind of technical snafu that took a while to repair that took it down for many days of troubleshooting and parts, etc... I recall that.

I think Norsan wants to take 1170 St. Aug dark so that they can loosen the pattern or just do away with the directional array of WEWC 1160 Callahan-Jax and make it more powerful.

That would definitely make sense because in some parts of Duval County, 1170 bleeds into 1160. Bad move by the FCC anyway allowing them that close.
