Hey let's roll this out sometime next month. We could use some publicity and it's time to promote SOX's overnight sensation. How about something like this:

>>Whether we're playing The Turtles or The Beatles, you can count on WSOX's Doug O'Brien to be there ready to talk over the beginning and ending of your favorite hits.

>>O'Brien is a radio professional who demonstrates his passion for consistently broadcasting what day it is, who you're listening to, and what station is on.

>>With a long emphasis on the word "got" and a chipper "96.1 WSOX", Mr. O'Brien is perhaps the most exciting pre-recorded overnight talent to hit the Central PA FM band since Tom Brown chirped the night away on former WWKL 99.3 FM.

>>We here at WSOX are very proud of our "hit the post" sensation and hope that you, the listeners, will appreciate being told what day it is...five times per hour.

>>From YOUR station playing ten in a row, providing you with two-faced morning talent, giving you "fuzzy summers" and "long winters", and introducing you to the "it's another Monday morning with Doug O'Brien" five times per hour.... 96-point-1 W-S-O-X.

If you have questions, give me a call at Cumulus - Atlanta.

.:this is not a real memo, but a Cumulus funny:.

Pretty safe to say the author of the faux memo won't find himself awash in job offers from Letterman, Leno, et al.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Doug O'Brien, and learned a great deal. Outstanding voice, a sense of humor as dry as a vodka martini, and a keen sense of character. You know your joke works when Dugo cracks a smile.

So while I admit that I never will sound as good as Doug, I'll lay 10-to-1 that very, very few others here on this board do.

I'm happy someone appreciated the humor in the "memo".

Doug O'Brien has one of the best voices and makes every song exciting. While I can appreciate a good talk-over, the songs on WSOX have been shortened already! 10 in a row isn't a big deal when the songs are two minutes long! LOL.

Anyway, it's just a shame that he has to broadcast under the guise of pre-recorded radio. Yeah, we know it's past midnight...but we want something more personable. Not a complaint of O'Brien per se, but of the entire radio industry.

It would be nice if WSOX would even acknowledge the presence of Doug on their website. They have a profile and pic for Jess, the morning traffic woman, but not O'Brien.

I hope Doug would be able to find some humor in this thread. He has an excellent voice...but we know now that doesn't mean anything anymore in radio.

Doug is my mentor. I'm also glad he finally agreed to learn voice tracking.
