WSPA adds APD

Per Allaccess, WSPA (Magic 98.9) has promoted afternoon host Stacie Bartro to Assistant Program Director.

Perhaps this will help get them back on track, but I doubt much will improve there until the current PD (who has no clue, IMO) is no longer in charge.

CONGRATS on the WSPA gig!....
a position i held for a very short time in 1979-80.

I heard some pretty strange stuff in regular rotation on 98.9 today. Checked yes.com and they are digging deep. I'm seeing T'Pau, the theme from Friends (Rembrandts), Jo Dee Messina, Alison Krauss, Madonna's Material Girl, Shawn Mullins, 80s rock....some funny stuff in there. Looks like they've really opened the playlist up. Did they not learn from the deep Christmas cuts?

I wonder if this could be a result of the APD appointment. These people need a clear direction

It wouldn't be the APD. It would be the CHR PD who handles 98.9 on the side. They think any monkey can program the AC. And, they'll still be thinking that as shares shrink.

I agree. Programming there is absolutely clueless. I almost think Stacie would be a better PD. I don't know her personally, but listening to her on-air, she seems much more AC knowledgeable than "programming" now. Why was the last PD moved anyway? He had them doing the best they had been doing for quite a while (started hurting WMYI after late '06)...then after their highest book in ages he was moved to Kansas. Now WMYI can continue to sit and do nothing and easily get 6 shares.

I scanned the recently played for today and I see Hinder, 3 Doors Down, Tonic, Spin Doctors, Nickelback, Gavin DeGraw, Switchfoot....mixed with Wild Cherry and Jo Dee Messina. If they were wanting more of a Variety Hits (um...Charlie?) I could see this, but these songs all on the same station just sounds like a bunch of clutter, I'd love to know their strategy. It looks like some twisted blend of Adult Hits/AC/Hot AC. They are 90s/00s heavy but not up on the very new songs very much. This station's going to tank.

i agree that magic needs help. yes.com is not accurate. mediabase does not show the mims song but does show eddy money i noticed lots of problems with that website. some accuracy but probably adding songs they are paid to feature

I don't have Mediabase access, so I have to rely on yes unfortunately. It lists the song as only playing a minute, so it must have been a glitch.

one song doesn't really matter though, they're still making a bigger mess than ever out of things. This is almost worse than the Bo Griffin fiasco. Now they sound like a cross between an AC and Variety Hits
