WSPA FM and Christmas…when is enough enough?

A bit pedantic, but thanks, I guess. All I wanted was a clarification on whether WSPA-FM, wherever its studios are, is all-Christmas from Labor Day through Dec. 26 or just did a Labor Day weekend Christmas stunt and then returns to its normal AC format until .... who knows when. That's the last bit of clarification needed here: When does the station go 24/7 ho-ho-ho?
I'm sure they are going back to regular format on Tuesday. It's sad that's a real question on Labor Day.

I don't think one 12-word sentence can qualify as "pedantic". I'm sure they're returning to format Tuesday. It's sad that's a real question on Labor Day.
Thanks. I gather you don't know when the 24/7 format begins, then? When has it started in past years? Is it a normal Nov/Dec thing?

To G-Mack’s point, it’s for sure not ratings based. Last year and year before numbers were dismal compared to a few years back with two ac’s doing 24/7 and both being in the top slots. Magic had zero magic from it last Christmas. In fact, it helped build another station who did zero Christmas that was previously known for it. I certainly would love for them to stay in it (as a competitor) but they will return with it on Halloween and then stay. They’ve done it every holiday three day weekend this year. The station is completely dead outside of it so really nothing to lose by hanging their stocking where it’s filled. Zero passion for that station when not jingling.

People actually like the AC format. Some of them are Jewish or other religions. Seems like now's a good time for a a new AC in Greenville. I am looking at you 104.9.

iHeart isn’t going to do AC. They had a hard landing with that format on 102.5 and continued to fail flipping between Hot AC/AC so I don’t see it working any differently for them again.

I don’t think it’s just WSPA-FM, B93.7 outside of mornings and even WROQ are just on auto pilot most of the time. The parking lot at 25 Garlington is a ghost town and has been for a while.

pds that push back on sales don't last long. christmas music over labor day is a great idea. radio has become a survival career.

It’s not that pd’s push back with a hell no attitude . You make it make sense for programming and sales. Work with them - not against. You don’t just give in if something isn’t smart. It’s why we’re here. Everyone wins - including the listener. It does require a GM that gets it and is also willing to back you. But that’s for those still doing real radio plugged into your local market.

not all gms and gsms get it if that is what the client wants then that is what we are doing they consider any discussion as push back
