WSPA-FM reduced power?

Since the rain and storms the other day, I’ve noticed static regularly on 98.9 about 35-40 miles from the tower. It’s normally a HD radio lock and one of the strongest signals here but it’s struggling badly. Does anyone know if their tower has sustained some kind of damage? Are they broadcasting from an aux site?

I had week indoor signal strength (brick building) in Eastern Spartanburg yesterday, but all the other full power signals sounded better, which isn't right since WSPA is usually the strongest of them, but it was very week indoors.

Is this just at reduced power or is it an Auxiliary site? Or is it fixed, because I did hear them earlier today all the way in Rock Hill with no trouble so I don't really know...

At one time WSPA used to tag all its songs with title and artist. The announcement was recorded at the end of the song, so the DJ doesn't have to say it. Does WSPA still do that?

DJs rarely announce the title or artist these days unless he/she has specific info on a concert or other news about the performer.

They stopped that about a decade ago.

WSPA Radio has always had one of the strongest Upstate signals on 98.9FM, reaching all the way to Charlotte and way down in Georgia. Are they on the same tower as WSPA-TV channel 7 on Hogback Mountain? I know they are no longer the same broadcast company, but do they share the same tower? Perhaps they were just having technical difficulties.

They raised their own tower a few years ago on Hogback next to WSPA-TV with plans to move WTPT over as well. I believe that's been either put on hold or not happening now. Most likely atmospheric conditions as we slide to fall. SPA is a full non directinal class C. Class A's get hit the worst or directional signals. WSPA-FM fyi was the1st FM in SC, First in Stereo in SC and 6th in the entire world to broadcast stereo. The very first stereo broadcast experiment in the Carolina's used WSPA-AM for one channel and WSPA-FM for the other. I started there and have many of the old write ups and promotional pieces of the day.
