WSPQ 1330 AM

So what the heck happened to that station?

I don't get out towards Springville that often but I had some appointments in the Concord/Colden/Springville area earlier in the week so I flipped on "THE Q" to find just music.

At one time this station ran Dan Patrick and Tony Kornheiser's shows when they were both associated with ESPN and there was some decent local content.

What did the owner of Biscuit Communications think he was doing when he flipped to music on a weak AM signal?

The Mighty 1330 was sold a few years back for about $90k and has been doing Classic Hits for a few years. WSPQ is a great call sign, but these days it might as well be WGAS. This is one of those AMs that's sandwiched into the band, very directional and doesn't have much to offer. Years ago it was the springboard for a number of men and women who went on to work in Buffalo, Jamestown and other markets when it was doing live, local Country with a good schedule of NASCAR. Most of the folks in that neck of the woods get their Country from 95.7 The Pig in Olean or WYRK Buffalo. WSPQ has a tough row to hoe, even more difficult since WHTT returned to Classic Hits. Whadayagonnado with a rig like this?

I say go back to some talk shows during the day.

No one locally runs Glenn Beck's show.

Or what about running Michael Savage's program?

You can still play music in the evening and on weekends, but give people a reason to listen.

I'm curious if the owner thinks it is actually quality programming or if it's just a simple investment that he must be making some profit on.

I believe that a bunch of local business people bought the station, and they aren't interested in controversy. It's pretty much a vehicle for their own local advertising. The music is the music that they like.

Their GM/top sales guy for awhile was Kevin Bauer (or Bower?) but I'm not sure when he left or if he's still involved at The Q somewhow.
