WSRO Format Change

Not only did WSRO AM go digital, but they flipped from Jazz to Classical "Bostons's Classical Station".
They also continue to simulcast on 102.1 FM. Not sure how the revenue picture changes going classical?
No spots no money. Wonder how they support the now vacant Framingham studios and transmitter site?
There programming seems to be totally automated, no live announcers.
 
WCRB studios are in the 2 complex in Allston, they're licensed to Lowell and stick in Andover--but they brand as Classical Radio Boston (and yes it does reach there), while this effort can only be picked up on a digital AM radio unless you count the FM translator and does that reach all that far...for "Boston's Classical Station"

I live in Worcester and can pick up the FM translator on the east side and especially heading into Shrewsbury.
 
Ok good--as usual Radio Locator maps are iffy and I did say Northboro which is Worc county.
The station doesn't stream as far as I can tell and their website is a temporary placeholder page that links to the WSRO info page on FCC site.

Think it's said lic expires 4-1-22... I don't know if anyone would lease or buy the station, which does come with the FM
transmitter. Would they let 650 go forever silent if no buyer or leaser came forward?
Find a way to sell the FM transmitter so someone else could use it?
Of course it's only for MetroWest.

iHeart is full up on FMs I think but could get an FM translator...picture "WRKO AM 680, FM 102.1, and 100.7 HD2..." But I'm overthinking here.

as has been said before.. filler till someone else leases it.

Anything on the air even if its making no money, is worth more then something off the air.

I've got a horrible programming idea :sneaky:: Just back-to-back ads for lawyers, ED pills, and maybe some Brother Stair. Better than deafening silence 🤣

Who has said it before? Anyone reliable?

They didn't seem to have much sucess leasing it previously, I don't see going through the bother of making it digital would help them to lease more time. (Actually, I think think it hurts there ability to lease it....less listeners, harder to listen.)

It's een discussed in other places.... and pay to play radio is what langer does

After experiencing what WSRO sounds like in digital, I was cruising around today listening to WMEX.

I got to thinking what WMEX would sound like in HD or all-digital (since there is no FM oldies station anymore.)

I would imagine it would sound great!

You can get an idea of what WMEX would sound like by listening to their stream. It sounds good. Most of the oldies in which the original versions (not later remakes) are available in true stereo are played in stereo. I've streamed them in stereo in my car via my phone connected to my car stereo "aux" input jack. WMEX 1510 AM | Quincy Radio

Also, there is an FM oldies station in a certain area, WMEX is now on FM in a small area of the South Shore via their translator on 101.1 FM in Weymouth (analog, not HD).

Eli,

Would that that translator be a full-power FM signal so the rest of us could get it! But it'll never happen.
