WSRZ Oldies 108 Number 1 12+ in Sarasota!

Congrats to Clear Channel, and a real pro Ron White and the staff at Oldies 108. Yeah I know it's Sarasota, but it's great to see an Oldies station do well..They even did great 25-54, so let's hope they can sell it.

I still don't get it. Pretty much 70% of the national commercials you see use an oldie as a theme, or varitation on one to sell stuff..yet the same agencies claim that people that like oldies don't BUY anything. What the deuce is this?

I was home in the Tampa Bay area over the holidays and really enjoyed 108 -- In fact I liked it better than Q-105. Even through they have revived the "Q" format it still doesn't sound the same -- it may be the voicetracking or the commercials that are based for 45+. Anyway, back to 108, I was very surprised how well their signal was in central Pinellas. I listened to them on the I-4 corridor over to Winter Haven. Good job!

108 puts a good signal into southern Pinellas all the time. The afternoon guy, Scott Miller, is a real pro. I believe he was in Detriot and Chicago. He sounds like he's having fun, even on crappy days. I think mid days are voice tracked from a guy in Cincinnati. I'm not happy about the changes on "Q-105". They were better at being Oldies 104.7 than what they are doing now.

Just my two cents.<P ID="signature">______________

I was wondering if Ron was still there, now I know! I worked for Ron a good many years ago. I was a young snot nosed punk when I worked for him and did not appreciate him at the time. But the knowledge he gave me has served me well. Ron is one of the greats. Happy to hear of his success and the success of his team!

Great Analogy. You're right you can't turn on the TV without hearing an oldie in a spot.

It is a superb sounding station. Best oldies station I've heard since Pat Garrett programmed Cool 96.9 in Jacksonville.

I wonder if the guy that does the great imaging for this station has anything to do with it's success? They have always been much better than anything out of Tampa exept U92 when Scott Robbins was there or the old WHBO 1040. I remember when Scott flipped U92 from Classical to oldies... first two songs were Roll over Beethoven and Lovers Concerto....
I did like the old CKLW Top of the Hour Bill Drake clone of "ladies and gentlemen"
I bet Jim Davis had something to do with that....

On the advice of people on this board, I tuned up to 107.9 for a few days, I pick them up fairly well in Central Pinellas and very well in South Pin. All I can say is...WOW! What a great sounding station. This is what Oldies 104.7 should've sounded like. They have great energy, good branding, and a nice music mix. I made them on button on my pre-sets.

Just heard Slow Ride (Foghat) on a TV spot and...this one blew even me away...Shapes of Things to Come (Yardbird hit from mid 60's) on a Target spot!
