WSSX 95SX undergoing change

95SX has changed their logo and station colors. Maybe to reimage themselves with B92 leaving the picture?
What are your thoughts?

All happened way before the announcement of the B92 flip. Mike Edwards is no longer in charge and hasn't been since January or February. Station is being ran by an outside Citadel PD. He made all of the changes. Mike Edwards is now just his local "execute what I say" boy. Outside PD schedules music and has been the change behind the imaging and daypart changes. The outside PD moved Seacrest from Afternoons to Mid-Days which is what Tessa was Voice Tracking. She is currently Voice Tracking afternoons until SX hires a new live afternoon jock. It will now be interesting to see how this affects SX. This move will leave a decent segment of young white listeners looking for a new station. Right now SX seems to be the default, although their horrible Phone Prank of the day, that seems to be their bread and butter, leaves people looking for there I-Pods! And the music scheduling is the worst ever! Yesterday at 4:30pm The Blackeyed Peas "Boom Boo Pow", 16 minutes later at 4:46pm The Blackeyed Peas "Imma Be", then 17 minutes later at 5:03pm again The Blackeyed Peas "Imma Be"! That's just sloppy, beginner music scheduling that will run people away screaming and begging for a different station! So now Citadel has a chance to seize again being the only and leading CHR, but they will find a way to blow it!

Thought all the green was for St. Patty day. The logo isnt that bad. I can see where they got part of the new logo from "NOW" as its the name of a CHR in NYC "92.3 Now FM". I remember not to long ago the slogan being "Charleston's Hit Music Channel".

Yep, that's the Now/Amp logo readjusted to fit WSSX's branding. It honestly doesn't look bad, but it'll be strange getting used to it after years of the old one. Citadel implemented almost the exact same changes to their Boise CHR (KZMG/Idaho) a few months back - the "Hit Music Now" and heavily rhythmic playlists which CBS and (to a lesser extent) CC have been running amok with. With B92 gone (was billing just not up to par?), Charleston is now completely without a truly mainstream CHR hardly anything remotely Hot AC-friendly. Hits like "Need You Now," "Live Like We're Dying" and "Hey, Soul Sister" are now ignored or de-emphasized on a station that used to thrive on such records. I'll tell you this, 95SX's shift and B92's disappearance open the door WIDE OPEN for a successful Adult CHR or Hot AC in Charleston.

By the way, who's the out-of-town PD that's calling the shots for 95SX?

They are playing "Need You Now", but not in heavy rotation.

I like rhythmic-leaning CHR's, but I agree there's a void (however, wasn't B92 rhythmic leaning?). For a good while after Sunny flipped I think, SX was hot AC leaning to try to grab some of that audience.

Maybe Chuck FM should start playing more Adult CHR type songs and go more modern.

Between 95SX and B92, B always leaned more Rhythmic than SX. Where's the void? Can Charleston can suport two CHR stations? Remember 94.3 The Beat? Now that was real Rhythmic radio, however Clear Channel killed it off.

carolinaradio, 95SX's spins for "Need You Now" are almost negligible considering how massive the song is becoming - and that Charleston is a Southern market.

ShawtyBlack, the void exists for a station which plays the Keshas, Jay Seans and Lady Gagas of the world but emphasizes Hot AC hits from Daughtry, Lifehouse, Train and the like that 95SX is now completely ignoring. A station like Star 94/Atlanta could make a killing, in my opinion.

SX is a joke now compared to other top 40s in other markets. Most of the top 40 audience in the area listened to B92, as I had a lot of Facebook messages talking about how bad it was that they lost B92.

95SX needs to change. It has sounded nearly the same for six or seven years now (same stupid contests, unexciting morning show, many of the same jingles). At least it's better than WEZL, which is a good station, but has had the same jingles since the late 1990s.

I would do a straight, personality-driven top 40, try to be all live and local 6am-7pm, and have Seacrest at night. If you couldn't, I'd have a great night show with mixers from 7-Midnight. That would pull me in. I would listen to that.

I think you're on to something, Charlestondxman! :D

I misread that and though it was Chick FM. But Chick FM is filling that void. Another thread suggests it hasn't got much of a signal.

The other afternoon I had on 95sx and they were playing a old school hip hop song. Was like shouldn't that be on z93 Jamz. Does Citadel think both stations will hurt The Box in the long run? Not sure but Citadel should add some more rock songs to the 95sx playlist. I do hear "Need You Now" on sx from time to time.

Absolutely. Two girls and a guy has been around since 1999 and seen so many reincarnations. It needs to go. Kidd Kraddick should move over to SX. I'm not a big proponent of syndicated radio, but I believe Kraddick has a heartbeat and can reign supreme with proper marketing.

SX had for many years been "white" during the day and "black" after 3pm. Jim Richards thought this was such a good idea, but I think it's a lie. 95SX was never a true CHR. It was a hybrid of AC/CHR.

Jim richards also thought if he could, he'd get away with playing Christmas music beginning on Oct 1. Do we really want these guys controlling and telling us what to play and hear.

95SX's glory days are through.

The fact that Edwards is no longer in charge has got to be good news. This means that he will finally be headed out of town. It's time for a serious change over there. The morning show needs to be scrapped. Theoretically, they should rise to the top, but I'm sure something will screwed up along the way.

I am not even sure they keep bringing in new people like this afternoon guy. How many afternoon guys have they had in the past 3 or 4 years? come on, give it up. Overhaul required.

Charleston had two CHR's that ran successfully back in the 80's...(I know, TOTALLY different times) But, I remember when both 95-SX and Q107 (WKQB) were two STRONG CHR's until about 1992 or so....right?

Q107 did well againest 95SX but refused to change formats when the Rock side of music fell out and everything swung toward country. This along with a few other factors put Q107 in chapter 11 and totally off the air for one year back then until it was bought from the bank by a different company and put back on the air as The Big Bubba WBUB 107.5. Music has swung away from country over the last 10 years or so (not much country left in todays watered down country music) but with the changes in the current music scene and times maybe a CHR battle would wake 95SX up.
