WSTP Salisbury to sign off

I don't get it. Being purchased by Catawba College was supposed to keep the station on the air. And it was supposed to be used to train students. They were going to do that with WSAT (surely the kids could find better music to play than the satellite format).

WAME has better country music anyway, since they don't try to play the new stuff. WSTP's signal was better in some places.

According to the comments below the article, there is the possibility it will come back.

Someone commented Salisbury needed a station like WRBK in Richburg. WSAT and WRBK have the same format (if anything WRBK is softer), and obituaries at 1:00 wouldn't be a difference. WSAT has those at Noon.

Concord needs its own station. I've been thinking WSTP and WTIX could pair up, with studios in Concord, so there would really be a station in Concord. But apparently that's too expensive. It's a joke that people in Concord act like it's "their" station because all they have is a transmitter, and maybe local high school sports.

I hear WSAT is getting a translator at 103.3.

Meanwhile, what about St. John's Lutheran? Their services were on WSTP for decades. When the station went off the air to make the move to the WSAT studios, WSAT aired the services at noon after First Baptist's. This Sunday the Panthers won't be playing, and next Sunday they won't either because they have the Thursday night game. However, most games are at 1 and WSAT starts coverage at noon.

Here's what ought to happen. Someone made a mistake years ago and though Carl Ford had bought WSTP. That's what should happen now. He doesn't need WRNA because WRKB covers the area that WRNA does. Except at night. If WRNA could go off the air, WAVO could be heard better. Assuming WAVO stays around. I heard their fund raiser didn't go that well this year.
