WSUS - Vince Thomas Fired

Vince Thomas from 102.3 WSUS was just fired from Clear Channel - while he is in a hospital trying to fight cancer.
 
I know people in the market. He is terminated because he was on medical leave & Clear Channel wasn't happy by it. Great thing to do for someone that was there for years and was PD of top rated & top billing station.
 
As of this morning (10/24), he' still on their web site and last night I heard George Fuller saying he was filling in for Vince...so at this point there has been no official confirmation.
 
I heard this as well from a family member today. I know Vince is expected to have a risky surgery quite soon and this firing was done by LETTER, not even by phone. His family is going through a VERY difficult and frightening time but I know that you can contact his wife on their blog. My prayers and thoughts are with them. This is a new low, even for Clear Channel. It's also a SLAP in the face of people suffering from cancer and to those who rely on medical leave to try and survive while providing for their family.
Fire a man while he's dying. How VERY classy of CCNJ. How very par for the course for them as well.
 
What an absolute disgrace! At such a devastating and unpredictable time in someone's life, what better thing to do than add insult to injury and dangle the man's job over his head! What a bunch of Bastards! I would MUCH rather work as an inturn for *FREE* than work for those heartless idiots and not to mention a clueless company. Vince has been a staple of WSUS for MANY years and as a previous poster said, this truly IS nothing short of a HUGE slap in the face. If this is how people are repaid for their dedication and contributions I think we need to go back in time and realize what exactly the "backbone" of these companies is: HINT, The EMPLOYEES!!! Nothing but well-wishes and warm-thoughts to Vince and his family. While his company is tossing him aside, HIS FRIENDS AND RADIO FAMILY are behind him EVERY step of the way...

To those behind the "alleged" firing leave all your warm clothes behind because where YOU ALL belong you won't be needing them!! :mad:

Here is an update from Vince on his CaringBridge site, where he discusses his situation with WSUS....


And now, please let me dispell some rumors regarding my future on WSUS. Because of how involved htis infection is, I have to go back on disability. I am not sure how long that will take, but we all need to be certain that I am 100% before returning to work - which I can do whenever I am ready. So no, I have not been fired or terminated. But I do want to thank Clear Channel for making it all happen and for all my listeners, co-workers and friends for showing your support. THANK YOU!

Vince's employment with Clear Channel NEVER ended. That is the fact and only fact that matters.

This is once again an example of the damage and trouble third level rumors combined with false claims spun by some gutless coward hiding behind a screenname can do.

In the meantime, Vince is experiencing a true miracle in his recovery. Faith, hope and prayer are indeed meaningful.

Let's be COMPLETELY HONEST HERE... It IS Clear Channel and whether is DID or DID NOT play out in terms of Vince being terminated, the sad TRUTH is that I'm SURE it was considered since it DOES involve that green paper with numbers and faces on it... MONEY!!! The fact that someone posted something about someone we ALL genuinely care about and wish well was more than appropropriate! If indeed it turned out to be inaccurate well then ALL THE BETTER!! I'd say we learned two things then... Don't ALWAYS believe what you hear and also that there are a hell of a lot of people pulling for Vince! Had it not been for "sprstff", who knows if all the support would have been offered on this forum/venue. As for you Chris De Bello focus on your "Imus Interests" on the OTHER board and try not to disparage other people because you are trying to defend CC in order to keep your "public affairs programming" on the weekends... INCREDIBLY transparent!! Plus does Clear Channel allow their employees to post on message boards??? I would think that would be a conflict of interest............... ::)

I will make it right by saying that I saw the letter that Clear Channel gave Vince terminating him. I happen to know the family & know how upset they were when the decision was made. I am guessing they did not realize that the community would respond the way they did and your employer had to backtrack the way they did.

Maybe you were given just part of the story because I bet your co-workers would be in an uproar if they found out how he was treated.
 
Hey Radio411, just some 411 of my own:

I've been employed by Nassau, CC, and (currently) Westwood1. None of them have put restraints on me (or anyone else that I know of) regarding off-the-clock activities like posting on radio message boards. Not sure how you got the idea this might be a "conflict of interest", but it ain't the case.

BTW, I think Chris does an excellent job with his weekkend broadcasts. The slight implied by putting "public affairs programming" in quotes was petty. You know (if you work in the industry) how tough it is to get ANY gig these days, particularly since deregulation. Belittling any announcer for an on-air position is incredibly mean sprited.

Sprstff, The flag of contradiction has now officially been raised in your honor. And I FULLY agree with Sherpat...I don't know Chris personally, but I have heard him on the air and respect his work too. At least Chris has the courage to come on here and make a point without trying to conceal his identity. Shame on anyone who launches a personal attack against one someone else while hiding behind a handle. That's just cowardly.

Corporations like Clear Channel are cold, heartless, greedy greedy companies to work for. Their radio stations stink and are lucky that they are still around! Maybe that will change real soon! That is why I got out of doing terrestrial radio. The last station I worked for was owned by Nassau Broadcasting - another very greedy, miserable bunch to work for. It makes me very sad to hear what happened to Vince. That has to be the worst thing that anyone could do. They are miserable human beings, correction, they are not human beings. - As much as I love the radio industry - I will never work for one of these companies again!!!!!!!

Vince was such a good guy I cant belive he's gone! So glad I got to work with him back when I was at the ol Classic Hits 1037. It was a tight knit group that worked there at the time and we all enjoyed hanging out together getting some drinks or just random fun in sussex county back in the late 90's. So glad I worked with him and be able to call him a friend. Vince is one of those people who made you glad to be in radio, cause he was just such a good guy. This is really sad news, going to miss him.
