Here's the TL;DR version since that article is paywalled.
Sunbeam Properties is working on this major mixed-use project in Miramar that's connected to the relocation of WSVN 7.
Eight acres on the Southeast corner of Miramar Parkway and Red Road, just off Florida's Turnpike exit onto Red Road.
The city commission considered the plan on August 16th. Sunbeam already owns the vacant property.
A two-story, 71,272 sq ft. building with 262 parking spaces and a 65 ft communications tower. The dishes would beam its microwave signal to the antenna farm near the Miami-Dade/Broward county line, instead of to North Bay Village.
The new facility will have...
A news studio
A second production studio
A Newsroom (or the Newsplex, of course)
A weather broadcasting room
Video and Production control rooms
Executive offices
A staff dining room
A kitchen
Its meant to withstand a Cat. 5 hurricane with two generators, a fuel tank for vehicles, and a backup AC. The building would be elevated land in case of flooding.
The second studio would be used for WSVN 7 to do Deco Drive and fill other programming, commercials, and third-party productions while the news is done in the main studio.
Moving WSVN 7 is under the condition of another project Sunbeam wants to present... 2,800 apartments, a hotel, and 300,000 sq ft. of commercial space, incl. 40,000 for a grocer, 40,000 for entertainment, and 120,000 for restaurants.
It would first put new equipment in Miramar, run some beta tests, and then flip the switch once the move is made.
However, the station is not expected to move for another three years. In other words, it may not be there until 2026 (weather permitting, of course).
Sunbeam is also now pursuing a major mixed-use project in North Bay Village where WSVN 7 is currently located now, including 7.3 mil sq ft of development on the nearly 13 acres it owns there.
The first building would be a 40-story mixed-use tower. Retail and restaurant space on the water, then another restaurant on the second floor.
