WTAM and traffic reports

This week I have been working different hours, so my drive into work and going home are heavy rush hour commutes. I have been listening to my radio more and my mp3 less this week so I could hear traffic reports.

Inbound at 6AM traffic reports are on as scheduled. I'm either listening to WCRF or WTAM. No problem there. My problem is in the afternoon with "the voice of Cleveland". Yesterday evening I was trying to get the traffic report. Steve Douglas got maybe 2 words in in between an argument between Triv and Rado. Meanwhile traffic is at a slow creep on 77 and I am wanting to know if there is an acicident causing the slow down. I know that the more professional folks come to this board and I would like your thoughts about how important are traffic reports on the commute home.

Also visit my blog where I have a poll on this very topic. http://wixygrad.blogspot.com/

Show a clockwheel to his face? You'd be better off splashing a jar of garlic sauce on a vampire!

That's been his problem the WHOLE time he's been in afternoon drive. He's rarely, if ever, given the weather... which is why it was easy to pawn it off to Kim... and then with the prerecorded snippets from the news anchors. He also never threw it over to Mike Snyder on time (even AFTER they stole the "20/20 Sports" branding away from WKNR).

Look, I don't care for the same retread criticism on WTAM from the usual trolls. It's not worth my time to even listen to him, and I haven't since 2004 (if not earlier). But when you position a supposedly vital element of your station as occuring "every ten minutes, on the tens," and you NEVER deliver on that, then the station's credibility turns to... well... crudability.

But it's really Triv's problem, anyway. Thirteen years in that time slot, and he's never understood just what that phrase means... or his phony act will never configure into the format (but we already know he's a pathetic phony).

Nate: Normally on my way home I listen to my mp3 player. As far as I'm concerned, there isn't any decent local talk, so it's usually poscasts I get off iTunes. I think if other stations would advertise that they give traffic reports when they promise and then give the times, that would erode into Trivisonno's audience.

I called Elk and Elk this morning to complain about what happens during traffic reports that they sponsor and was told as long as their name is mentioned, it's the station's problem with the content. Guess who I won't call when I need a lawyer?

And at the risk of being used as cannon fodder, I called Ray Davis and left a message on his voice mail. But unless it's played on Munch's show, I won't hear it if it's played on the big one.

i disagree, i think the traffic reports on triv's show are a total waste of time. it's cleveland, the inner-belt backs up near the curve, watch out on the jennings freeway, and 77 is slow from 490 to harvard-dennison. you can run it on a loop every day, it never changes. there is no point for a traffic report every 10 minutes in cleveland, i can understand why triv deems it as clutter.

Getting our opinions (from the professionals and actually-employed on this board) about how we feel on traffic reports has about as much merit as what a 29-year old guy thinks about a Top 40 station.

People who've been around Cleveland for more than a day know the typical backup spots on the highway (Metro Curve, Innerbelt bridge, pockets of I-77 into town). Listeners find traffic reports very important and become quite upset when they are not corrected (i.e. if there's a huge backup on I-271). The best place to get traffic reports?

From wkyc.com, go to "commuter cast" and click on the "Live Traffic Conditions" link. It updated constantly and extremely dependable. I'd check that out before you leave for/from work.

And to think that soon we will be able to access that site while we're driving. Then we can listen to whatever station we want and still get the services.

I haven't listened to AM 1100 in the afternoons since Bob Henderson got bounced, which goes back to 1994 and the 3WE days.
I've been a Mike Snyder fan, though, since his days on Sports Phone and announcing Cleveland Force games on AM 850 WJW.
I don't understand the appeal that Triv has with the masses and don't think I ever will.
