WTAM, part deux: Gilly returns!

Confirmed on Maxwell's show on WTAM this Saturday night. Rick Gilmour will fill in the 9:00AM post-Springer slot on Thursday and Friday. (No, the immortal JimMedina didn't tip me off here ;)

So add Gilly's name to the local talk pot that includes (for now, at least) Bob Frantz, Brad Sussman and Chuck Galeti. I do hope that Gilly is rejuvinated a bit from his time off the air, as his irreverent side in early years (1998-2000) sure made for appointment listening.

It IS positive to note that if there was any bad blood that came about between Gilly and management when he left last November, it seems to have subsided. I'll be rooting for him...

If Rick Gillmoure does come back, I'd like to see him on from, say 10pm-1am.

Gilly is more of a night owl anyway, and besides, it will cut into the time of that pom-pom boy Kevin Keane.

I still say Bob Frantz will get the 9-11:30am show when all is said and done, with Chuck Galeti hopefully taking over the Sunday gig again.

Great to hear Gilly getting a shot! I have to say, I can't hear him doing a late morning type show. Gilly is made for nights. Absolutely loved his night shows whether weekday or weekend!
Maybe if he makes enought scratch, he can get his dog back! Good luck Gilly!

I don't normally post here in fact this is my first but I have been reading this board for about a year or so. I have enjoyed the discussion.

Back to the topic at hand, I never listened to Gilly much when he "made it" but I used to enjoy listening to him back when he was a caller and sometimes guest on Steve Wainteads show Wainstead All night on WCSB back in the late 80's.

heh I can't believe it was that long ago.

And Gilly's last WERE show alone was almost 9 years ago. I still have the copy of Scene magazine his producer "Notorious B.I.G. Phil" (strike me down, I forget his last name...hell of a guy!) gave me when Gilly came to Strongsville in April 1997--just after he got canned by Walt Tiburski for the Allan Ginsberg "Howl" incident.

He was back on with "Beer Talk" still--but his own show was dropped.

Remember "Nighttalk" with Mitch, Gilly, and Steve Wainstead reading the Sun Newspapers' Police Blotter? God that was great radio. And then, later, Monica Gannon joined them (as "Phenoemonica").

And after they went off about 2am--it was Wainstead's own show.

What's HE doing now? Come to think of it, what are ALL of them doing now?! I guess we'll find out with Gilly on Thursday. He really needs to do a Jack Paar, "As I was saying before we were so rudely interrupted..."

I know "Beer Talk" wound up on AM/850 back in 2001, right when WRMR-WKNR cherry-picked a fair amount of WERE's brokered shows. WKNR dropped it in late 2002, no other station picked it up.

As for Monica Gannon, she's now the assistant production director for WDOK/WQAL, working alongside former WENZ "the End" imaging voice Ted Kowalski.

Heh, I'm one of those people whom everytime I hear Gilly's name I think of Wainstead all night. Those were good times. About the time Joe's Garage started playing I'd think, "I really should get a couple of hours of sleep."

Truth be told, I have to admit to being one of the high school pukes that would line up to call in and see how long it took for SW to dump the call... Let the floggings begin. :)

I thought SW went off to work for the New York Times. He's got a website up, but it doesn't make mention of it...
