WTAO Morning Show

The Rock Hard in the Morning Show with Pinto and Critter on WTAO in Carbondale
has been cancelled. From what I saw on the news, Pinto and Critter didn't do anything wrong to get their walking papers. CC decided they wanted to save money and this morning they're running Mancow.

Murphysboro-Carbondale, I believe. Murphysboro is not even five miles down the road from Carbondale.

It is licensed to Murphysboro, and the studios are in Marion.

What A World

Growing up and listening to this station play ANYTHING possible, to the corporate CC world it's in today, is unbelievable. Jocks used to bring in their own records, they'd take a school closing announcement from anybody without verification, and dead air was usually because someone was lighting up a fatty out back.

Jojo, you are correct, sir. I forgot that Clear Channels studios were in Marion.
Thanks for clearing that up.

WTAO was piped into the dining hall at Thompson Point when I was a student at SIU in the early '70s. It had the typical "underground FM" sound that was popular back then. No doubt your description is exactly right.

Yeah...That's how it was in the '70's when it first started. High upon a hill in Murphysboro...

I ran the place from April '89- May '91. You could smell the pot all over the place when I arrived. I did have a gret morning staff Tom Miller & John Carney. The Eagle didn't sound like it was coming out of a shack!

And if you ever saw it, it was just like you imagined what a classic rock station should look like..I wondering how ''The Cow'' will go down in Carbondale..guess all the Chicago kids attending S-I-U must be rejoicing..
