WTAR to "funny"

Does that 850 facility have a highly directional antenna? I've always been puzzled by Sinclair moving their top-level talk programming from a 50kW day/25kW night signal to the 5kW fulltime signal on 790. I've seen the 790 coverage, and it seems adequate, but I can't get an 850 coverage map. Barring a horribly directional facility, I would think the 850 signal would be better just from power and being in an area with lots of salt water (excellent for groundwave propagation).

"To catch all your favorite talk programs, plus Fox News, listen to AM 790 WNIS. And if you want to laugh your day away, tune in to Funny 850, 24/7 comedy radio."

Shouldn't it be the other way around - laughing at Fox News? ::)

Better than being sickened by MSNBC if it ever were to be on radio......ugh!

Somehow I don't see this format change ending up very well....or on the air for very long........

I wish them luck. With most of the current choices being wall-to-wall sports, religion and/or GOP propaganda, the AM dial has become very, very stale. 'Bout time somebody did something different.

Yes, it looks highly directional. The TX site is in Rushmere, which is northwest of Norfolk. Here's the day and night patterns (PDF).

I couldn't agree more. This isn't the first time this format has been tried. Several broadcasters and at least one network have tried this and failed. I just hope this network http://247comedy.com/ which began in September is an exception. Besides WTAR http://www.funny850.com/, the network has four other affiliates in Tucson AZ, Riverside CA, Albany OR and an H-D affiliate in Kansas City.

Supposedly, the format is working very well in Kansas City where it's on an FM translator.

I had to check the date of the original posting to make sure it was not April 1st. I am glad to hear about this and will check it out today! To say that todays radio is stale is like saying that the Dead Sea is a little bit sick.

You have three choices....

Don't read it

Seek professional help

Listen to me drone on

I like Funny 850 but notice they repeat a bit....at least the humor is clean....would like it better if they had some of the comics from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s included. More than half of the comics they have are not funny but at least I have a choice to go elsewhere.....like the previous poster should do.
