WTBT-100.5 The Beat, Saginaw MI Flips Formats Today

Sad news for the dance radio community today. WTBT-The new 100.5 The Beat flipped formats this morning @ 9am to a simulcast of their News/Talk 790 WSGW-AM. After given only 1 ratings period to produce numbers, NextMedia decided to pull the plug on the Dance format in Mid-Michigan. WHY!!!!????? I will surely miss it. In my opinion, their downfall was 2 things: 1-Lack of funds to have a real street presence; i.e. billboards, tv ads, etc. & 2-Their music programming lacked focus. They had a WKTU feel but 30%-50% of the music missed the mark.
Anyway, best wished to everyone formerly employed at The Beat.

Maybe it was a filler format

I'm not very familiar with the station, but there are times when stations/management/owners/whoever will put a new station on the air, only to be something to scare the listeners of the old format away before changing over to a new permanent format.

My guess is, unfortunatley for many people on Radio-Info who have a passion for dance music, that this could have been the situation here.

It's happened before, and with probably just about any/every format imaginable.
______________

It is indeed sad. But NextMedia had to go with something else, so who can blame them. This won't be the be all-end all for Dance Music on the radio, so they'll be another day.

Thank GOD for satellite! =) I don't have to worry about GTM's Beat flipping anytime soon!
______________
