WTCB Appears to Have Changed Arbitron Slogan

Either YES.COM has old data or they are reporting to Arbitron that they are "Columbia's Soft Rock." I haven't heard them use that on the air yet, though.

Funny, w00t. Always loved that. 69 degrees at WTCB-FM Orangeburg has 71. Columbia's Hometown Radio Station.

I am still trying how they justified saying they were the #1 Listen at Work station because the numbers just didn't work out no matter how I tried to figure out a way to peel the onion.

It was a veiled scatological reference, probably, subtly implying the other stations are #2.

But really, the statistical sample they used was probably pretty tight. ;D

I hope not. Jodie and Tony and the rest of the non-morning show crew deserve to be there. They do a bang-up job doing what every station used to do prior to voicetracking. There's no one better in afternoon drive than Tony Clyburn. Tight, concise, consistent, and plugged in.

I have no reason to have a grudge. I've never been in the halls of any of these companies. :D

I agree that B sounds great, while I don't agree with their music choices all the time, they sound very dedicated to the community and not so canned like everything today. I hope Cumulus goes easy on them, but seeing their track record and statements, I can't help but wonder.

I don't know what to call this station. Steve-FM Jr? They play a wide array of music during all dayparts. I've heard "Hold on Loosely" by 38 special during the day, "The Other Side" by Aerosmith at night. They are not live 24/7 by the way. They air the 80's and 90's backtrax shows on Saturday nights which is pretty interesting. Nirvana on B106? hahaha!

Spent some time back in Cincy (old stomping grounds) the market there is about as dull here. I see the Fall book was released today did not have time to look fully where all the players landed but clearly WTCB is in trouble. WTCB has been able to be all things to all people and that dose not fly today so changing their slogan to Soft Rock does not fit what they play and is a term being used less and less in AC.

WWNU going after much older demos is doing soft AC right, there are some things I question but overall they sound very good. I think the next book or two they will level off at 3.0 or 3.2 Columbia is not a big AC market to begin with however, the real story with those folks at Double O is what to do with 94. Yikes! In the end I would not count WTCB out, I'm sure they will regroup and get back on track, too much to loose.

Ordinarily, I would agree with you Denio. The wild card this time with WTCB is whether Cumulus will make changes for the sake of conformity across the chain rather than researching and re-focusing. Cumulus has had a reputation in the past of just photocopying everything from one market to another. Of course, other chains and other stations have done the same, so it's not an exclusively Cumulus thing.

I agree with WWNU peaking about 3.0-3.2.

Columbia did used to be a big AC town. At one point 93.5, 106.7, and 100.1 were all AC, with a satellite fed 93.5 and a very very soft gold-based WTCB in the top 6, with 100.1 mid-pack.

That was with two CHR's: 96.7 and 104.7, and for a short time, 103.1.

Times do change, however. For the first time in my memory, industry pundits are saying AC is a failing format... after over 30 years of saying its the magic (or majic) bullet.

B106.7 needs to become a focused AC. Play AC music from the 70s to today, not this strange adult hits/AC/hot AC variety. The presentation is good, but the music is just...weird at times. They need to do something, those ratings are almost unacceptable.

Magic 98.9 and My 102.5 are both AC stations that they could attempt to sound more like. Funny that Greenville is such an AC town and Columbia is not - I'd rather have something else than 2 AC stations that sound identical...

One can be assured that B 106 is not just sitting back letting it all go to waste. The big "Boom" is coming.... ;)

This might be the only time I would ever say this, but it might be good that Cumulus is coming. Maybe they can get 106.7's playlist on track to sound somewhat like a normal AC (such as their WGRR) since Citadel hasn't tried to.

I have to totally agree with Carolina Radio here. I remember the late 80's and early 90's in the Greenville market and you have two good AC stations that don't really sound like each other and a music mix especially more like WMYI would be great and would return 106.7 back to more of it's glory days.

Sadly, WMYI is nothing like it used to be, but the music is decent. Musically that is how B should sound. Magic/My sound the same musically these days IMO.
