WTCY

Just heard they recently moved WTCY from AM 1400 to the FM dial on 95.3, from my understanding that's a translator. And they're also simulcasting on WWNK's HD2 channel on 104.1. Anyone with an HD radio had a chance to listen to them? Also hear that AM 1400 is going to flipping to maybe Sports or Talk? What's the word on that?

Looks like Cumulus might be trying to stretch the rules just a bit (Rules? What rules? We don't need no stinking rules)! Unless they've come up with a very creative interpretation of the FCC rules on using FM translators to repeat AM programming, they won't be able to ditch "Touch" programming from 1400. But for a more thorough discussion of this, go to the Central Pennsylvania board. They've been talking about it for the past week or two.

According to Scott Fybush's site (correct me if I'm wrong in any way Scott) They aren't abandoning the AM or switching the programming to FM, it's a simulcast, they're just promoting the FM signal and using it exclusively for ID'S. I'm assuming that they still have to ID the AM LEGALY at the top of the hour. The FM isn't that powerful anyway, and the AM apparently draws solid numbers. Despite WTCY being a graveyarder, in most cases the AM is going to be heard BETTER than a low powered FM translator, even in office buildings.

From listening to WTCY online, in their legal ID they mention WWNK HD2, so that's the reason they're getting by with broadcasting or simulcasting on the translator at 95.3. I'm assuming they can get away with doing that. According to this article below, it looks like AM 1400 will be changing to a different format, even though I think should continue to simulcast on 1400. But Cumulus is gonna have to promote the station with it being WWNK HD2 channel with an addition to being on 95.3 maybe as The Touch 95.3 & 104.1 HD2.
