WTDA granted CP

You couldn't be more right on that one. No one...but no one will notice the increase. Makes you wonder why NABCO spent all the time, money and energy to bother with it...
 
The CP is more than a power increase; it allows them to change the directional pattern some, getting more coverage to the south than they currently have now. Also should help downtown reception some as well.
 
You beat me to the punch...the key isn't the power, it's the new antenna pattern. WPAY in Portsmouth (1st adjacent at 104.1) just finished their new tower which is slightly to the south of their old site. This allows WTDA to loosen the directional null to the south and send more signal toward downtown.

Recall initially that WTDA initially filed a "Triggering" application that could have forced the reclassification of WPAY to a Class C0 station, since their tower was below full Class C facilities. Class C0 gets less protection than a full Class C and would have allowed WTDA to eliminate the null to the south or even perhaps move the tower slightly to the south.
WPAY was permitted an opportunity to counter-file and build a full Class C facility. Eventually their hand was forced when their tower fell during an ice storm. They finished construction in September (just under the wire before their CP would have expired!)

Thanks gabigley1, I think the FCC ones are the most telling. You can see that the licensed southern line is above downtown and the CP's southern line is south of downtown. Sure not much of a difference distance-wise but should help considerably with downtown reception. When I drive around downtown about 3 times a week, WTDA is next to impossible to receive even though it's clear in the 'burbs. Should prove interesting to see what this slight shift will mean to downtown listening.
