WTDY Stunting... but don't get your hopes up

Another behind-the-paywall tantalizer! Decisions, decisions. Is it worth forking over the subscription price if you're not sure that you'll even want to read another story again? After all, this story is of interest mainly to Philadelphia listeners and the occasional radio geek. There ought to be a one-article-only fee of a quarter or so, but that only makes sense for the consumer, not for the publisher. I pay for access to the online version of my old hometown paper, but I read at least one article from it every day.
Considering the reports are targeted to those working in the industry at competitors, I've had many make the argument to me that I could charge hundreds of dollars per report for the value they provide as opposed to the $5 per month I charge currently. I provide details that enables competitors to prepare ahead of a change. I provide access at a rate radiogeeks and fans are able to afford because I am one of you. But it sure doesn't help me pay my bills...

Unrelated but does this website or radioinsight hire people to work for them in training? I'm interested in a career and working with them. I love radio and I think my background in teaching Special Education would make me a great fit as I can meet the needs of diverse learners.

And somehow the $50 a year price hasn't gone up and inflation sure has...
What people do not realize is what goes into running an actual business.
I'm sure there's time and effort you put into keeping up with all of this.
Thing is peoples time should be valued, and the way that is done in this world is with money, more times than not. since that's what is neded to pay bills and leasure.

What’s going on @ 96.5 has nothing to do with anything going on at 98.1
Cluster strategies can involve all components, with a change at one being looked at through the lens of what it means for the business as a whole. So "nothing" is a stretch, but the underlying point was a rebound with a tweak (or heck, without a tweak) doesn't mean a complete format change, as was the case with 98. Just an illustrative example, perhaps.

Of course it does Mike. Stations do not operate in a bubble. Everything is done in a cluster strategy. Audacy has three music stations that it will ensure each have their own lane to operate in and complement one another. You take 96.5 back too far in demos and it will chip away at WOGL and WBEB more than its intended targets.

What do they call that? Robbing Peter to pay Paul? You want to take listeners from IHeart and not from their own stations. Whatever they do, it will be different from the B and Big 98.1.

When the lanes are defined—not just by the songs but by the overall presentation and blend, you can do a hell of a lot even when you overlap songs. Ben, WMMR & WMGK have songs shared among all 3, but no one is going to mistake them for each other. It’s everything taken in totality that defines the lanes. But you can bet any tweaks they make at any of those three are viewed through the lens of the cluster in totality.

How would a flip to country benefit the Audacy cluster? Lance, you brought that up as a possibility.
This is highly simplified, but while I no longer believe that is in the plan, it would've create another option for a female 25-54 option (which would likely be targeted towards the younger end) that wouldn't necessarily overlap audience-wise with WBEB. It also would've hurt Beasley as WXTU is also the one of the top billing Country stations in the country. Audacy wants to have a block of female targeted stations it appears with their music stations as they have the three male focused spoken-word stations in KYW, WIP and WPHT.

Audacy needs something on the younger-end in their cluster for combo buys which narrows down what they're going to do with 96.5 significantly. Many of the younger focused formats have lost audience to streaming in larger quantities than other demos so while in the past a cluster play would've been to have a 35+ station like the old WOGL, 25-54 in WBEB, and 18-34 in WTDY, now it has become mostly looking for shades of gray which leads to Big 98.1 targeting 25-64 (but emphasis on 35-54), WBEB 25-64 (but emphasis on 25-54), and WTDY likely moving emphasis from 18-34 to 25-44 as those are still the money demos to court.

Perhaps bring back the Wired 96.5 brand and play older CHR. 2000s, 10s, and today.

Sure, Audacy put a lot of effort into promoting 96.5 to the concert attendees. The remote broadcast outside the stadium and advertising in the stadium. A good amount of them are from out of the market. People would have searched for tickets in multiple cities and picked which one was cheapest.

They would have listened to 96.5 only for a little while after the concert, then flipped to another station when they drove out of range.

This website has volunteer moderators who have vast experience in their particular fields. It has no paid outside positions.

Makes me wonder why CBS flipped Wired to a brand name that sounds like a punk rock sub genre. Was AMP supposed to be their version of iHeart's WiLD?

"Philadelphia's Pop Radio Station" on the station web tab.
David Guetta/Bebe Rexha - I'm Good (Blue) kicks off the New 96-5 followed by The Weeknd - Blinding Lights
