WTDY Stunting... but don't get your hopes up

96.5 TDY tweaked its format to Adult CHR following a weekend stunting with all Taylor Swift songs. It’s now “New 96.5”

This is the 5th name change/format tweak in 8 years.

As I mentioned in another thread, congrats to Bennett for surviving another change. He's been on 96.5 first at the end of the Wired era, then Amp, Today's, TDY, and now "The New 96.5"

I remember him from his days at WSPK K104. So basically they're going to be New 102.7 for Philly. Not different from what they were playing before at all.

Well, not we know why B101 has trended softer/older recently. Making room for this change.
How long will they get away with calling it "The New 96.5?" Although I can eventually see it just becoming "New 96.5" like sister "New 102.7" in NYC

I could see it becoming like their sister Star 94 in Atlanta. I do like that station, it’s all I listen to whenever I’m there

Hot AC with a Rhythmic lean with some air talent changes. New logo looks a lot like the prior one. The station had a similar music position when Jerry Lee still owned WBEB.

With B101 shifting much older with regard to median song age, and with 96.5 generally earning crappy ratings with CHR over the past couple years, this tweak makes sense and is in line with what I was expecting (see posts #30 and #38 in this thread).

Tim Herbster has spent most of all of his career at Adult CHR and CHR stations, so this type of format is right in his wheelhouse. I'm sure part of the reason he was hired was to help breathe life into 96.5.

I’m ok with the format change-they filled a hole in the market. I used to listen to Mix-106 all the time in the car. What I don’t like is the name. What a boring, stupid name. “The New 96-5”? Really? Why not Star 96, Mix 96, Y-96…. Even Hits-96 would be better.
