WTDY Stunting... but don't get your hopes up

I don't know how to describe my favorite format, Soft AC, to non radio people
I remember it being called "mellow rock" back in the '70s, when the format was full of Billy Joel, Dan Fogelberg, Cat Stevens, Carly Simon, etc. The problem is none of the music being played was rock. No back beat, not danceable, totally non-aggressive -- pop/folk balladry, the antithesis of rock. But it was what stations used to call it, and everyone knew what it meant.

I will say that the variety is pretty good, it runs a bit younger for me. Now I can jump back and forth from the B to 96.5 for a good mix.

Auducy has a few markets where they own both the AC and Hot AC
Hartford Lite 100.5 and 96.5 TIC
Boston Magic 106.7 and Mix 104.1
St. Louis 102.5 KEZK and Y98
Baltimore 101.9 lite fm and Mix 106.5
Most of these were taken over from CBS Radio when they sold to Entercom

It's dizzying to witness the inevitable (and we've already been seeing it on classic rock/classic hits stations) but we're witnessing that same sort of age-realignment with this new offering on WTDY. Any song that might seem out of place (and make some want to shout "failure out of the gate!" "what a mistake!" "Dead on arrival!") has, undoubtedly, been shown to test well in their new target demo- California Love, Mo Money Mo Problems, Numb, and My Own Worst Enemy were all massive hits that have had some kind of staying power and that people could absolutely sing along to. Have they played "One Headlight" yet?

Mix 104.1 and Magic 106.7 were both competing stations at one point

They should have kept it CHR just tweaked the music . Got another night jock . Two AC stations isn't going to work they are going to end up stealing from B101 lol on top of that they were finally starting to make inroads in ratings then they go and switch it up . Audacy is self sabotaging lol

I doubt it.
In a vacuum, a station like Kiss 107.9 in Sacramento could work. Even right now, you have WOGL and WBEN focusing more on 80s and leaning toward the rock side.

Slide in with a station that focuses on 90s/00s, and pulls heavily from the playlists of say Q102 and Wired back in the day, with just a handful of the top testing Alt tracks of that era (looking at you again, "My Own Worst Enemy" and the station could find a narrow lane for a bit. At least until Ben/WOGL etc. start aging into that era more as well.

But they're not two AC stations. Each one targets a specific demographic. Yes, while there will be some definite overlap, you won't hear B101 playing SZA, and you won't hear 96.5 playing Richard Marx

I've never heard of Kiss 107.9, so I just checked out a few hours of their recently played. I must say, it looks pretty much like what I wish would happen when I tell Alexa to play my music. That's pretty much exactly what I would like a radio station to be. That having been said, it wouldn't last here because there's simply no open lane for it.
