Yes that's always been a popular format tough. AC has not this is not LA Miami or Seattle we are talking about . Certain formats won't work in every market .And yet two rock formats in Philly owned by the same company means both of them are Top 5.

But that format has, in general, a much lower power ratio than any form of AC.Yes and it will fail . If anything that should have put the classic hip hop format that has done fairly well everywhere they have implemented it and Philly has the demographics to support a station like that
Evidence? I don't think there is overwhelming proof in either direction.. Hot AC has to be majority local for it to be a success.
Hot AC is CHR minus a few songs and a bit more gold and slower power rotations. They are too cheap to do that . As well as they are trying to turn syndicated CHR
hosts and shows to fit a Hot AC format .
Again, lower power ratio. They need to do old school hip hop
Hint: $$$or go back to CHR they were above two share and had one jock I really don't see what the problem was .

You technically are right it's kinda similar to what WBBM FM did exception is hey just play more hip hop and they didn't change the name . If TDY hadn't have changed the name it wouldn't have been as big of a deal. But if they do keep the same format it will probably go back to TDY eventually because the new 96.5 just sounds stupid. My view is that this wasn't a format change. It was a tweak. I bet some regular listeners haven't noticed. It's also why I don't expect an exodus from the station. They'll retain the previous ones and build from there.
Wrong. What happened over the last 50 years or so is that Jerry Lee's station so dominated adult demos that they sucked up all the revenue that was available in that format area. So time buyers would buy Jerry's station, and the country station and at least one rock station and maybe Urban and CHR is they were after 18-34 as well.Yes that's always been a popular format tough. Remind us when those stations were co-owned.Absolutely two AC formats in Philly owned by the same company will not work. Like the first two times or three I've lost count lol
What is your radio management, sales and programming experience that supports this conclusion?I give it 6 months maybe a year.
Except it has been tried. Twice. Radio One did it with "Boom" and iHeart did it with "Real"Yes and it will fail . You misunderstood my post. And in fact, I disagree with just about everything you typed into your response here.Yes and it will fail . Now this time last year when they hit 1.0 then I could see them throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks but they were doing OK if it ain't broke don't fix it.
There's a lot here about 1's and 2's and stealing audience and being "the closest they've ever been to Q102," but...seriously, none of that is important. What's important is making money. Audacy doesn't care how many points are between them an iHeart's CHR and they're not likely thinking about WDAS's audience at all. Now this is where I'd encourage you to lean in: They can make more money having an AC and a Hot AC to complement each other (and to combo sell) than they could having an AC and an also-ran CHR. Even if WTDY's 6+ numbers you're mentioning don't go up at all, what Audacy is doing now will be better for their bottomline than what they were doing last week.I guarantee when ratings drop back to low 1s and the new 96.5 isn't new anymore they will magically go back to 96.5 tdy. Or they will go country ,Rhymthic CHR , or Classic Hip hop. But given the demographics of Philly Classic Hip Hop would be likely. They already have the format and they can VT jocks and no one will care for that format. They also can potentially steal some of that WDAS money if they execute properly. But I just don't understand why they quietly flipped it right now they have been over 2 the past three months and the closest they've ever been to WIOQ , it's like they like self sabotage. As well as I can see them having no problem pairing a CHR with their other stations no shortage of ads and they had a sponsor for their studio I really just don't get it.
"Uptown Funk" and/or "Brown Eyed Girl" entering this thread in 3 ... 2 ...WTDY played RHCP's "Under the Bridge" from 1991.
To put that in perspective, that would be like a "Today's Hits" station in 1991 playing a song from 1959.

I’m in New England for the week, and Audacy-owned Mix 104.1 played it while I was driving out of Worcester. They also played Semisonic’s “Closing Time”, though the guitars are pretty tuned down.Add Lit's My Own Worst Enemy to the list of head scratchers for this train wreck of a format. Even for Odyssey, this reeks.
Natalie Imbruglia- TornWhat songs could be played on 98.1, 96.5, and 101.1?
Avril Lavigne - Complicated
Hoobastank - Reason
Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way
