Maybe there was a special reason they played it. Look at your post, you mentioned Sweet Sensation. You do realize they did a remake of the Supremes right? Or that both the Cover Girls and Sweet Sensation saw themselves at one point as the 80s version of the Supremes, right?

THE SUPREMES ROCK!

If it weren't for The Supremes and the mid 60s Motown explosion, the raw elements of disco, which served as the building blocks for contemporary dance, would have never existed.Don't EVER mess with THE SUPREMES!!(you can call her MISS Ross!)

That's a hell of a leap to make.Coro had a guest appearance on Miami Vice.Maybe they should play the Miami Vice theme next going by you rationalization. Now,if they would have play "Love Child" by the Supremes...I could cut them a lil slack but the show is call "Freestyle Free for all".So I expect to hear freestyle and not Motown.

Yeah b/c Miami Vice had such a HUGE impact on Coro's career. That's a hell of a comparison you're making between The Supremes and Miami Vice. You obviously don't seem to follow my logic at all.

Personally I wouldn't mind hearing the theme to Miami Vice, LOL haven't heard it in ages. That would really make the show a free style one if the DJ goes from Motown, to 80s TV themes, to Dance/Pop music from Latin kids who hail from the 5 boroughs and South FL.
Edited by CHRles on 03/13/06 08:24 PM.

Re: THE SUPREMES ROCK!

Really, there's no reason to play Diana Ross & The Supremes on a Freestyle show. I'm amazed anyone would even make a justification for it. All this discussion, it's just stupid. It's like having a hip hop show and out of no where comes AEIOU and sometimes Y by Ebn-Ozn. It doesn't belong, it's out of place and it's just wrong.

You listen to some corny sheeyot, don't you young lad? :)

New York DJs Do It Best!!!

Whatever, some of New York's most legendary DJs sometimes like to throw people off, just to break up the monotony. Listen to Junior or Tenaglia and they'll sometimes play a Clasical piece of music, or some old Punk Rock song depending on their mood. They'll find a way to make it fit. Listen to some of the weeknight party mixes on KTU as they'll sometimes throw in Guns N Roses even!

I went to see Sander Kleinenberg, one of the world's top Progressive DJs, a couple of years back and at the end of the night for the fun of it he played "Hey Ya" by Outkast.

It's not like the presenter on KTU went from Stevie B. to Pantera or Billy Ray Cirus. He probably played something by an all girl group Freestyle act and for the fun of it he proceeded to play one of the greatest all girl group to ever hit the Pop charts.

Hold On.....

Morpehux...

Some of your concerns might have been addressed on the New York board. If you live out on Long Island, you do have an oldies station on 103.1 that you could have hit inadvertantly.

One thing about freestyle fans (freestylepete, PLEASE back me up on this), they are DIE HARD when it comes to the music (more DIE HARD than ME with dance music, I strongly believe! There would be such a large revolt. if what you say did indeed happen. that the Daily News would have covered this.

I have to investigate some of the freestyle boards to see if this claim existed. Even though the music selection is not her decision, Judy Torres, who is the "Diana Ross" of the genre, would lose such validity if something non-freestyle entered her program.

Hopefully it was Sweet Sensation and/or The Cover Girls.

Re: New York DJs Do It Best!!!

But this isn't Danny spinning in a club, this is people tuning into a radio station that's supposedly featuring a SPECIFIC genre of music and getting something that sounds like a mistake to them. Attention spans are quite short for people tuning into radio. You can't just switch to another club when a jock spins something out of the norm, in fact, in that atmosphere, it's cool, you tolerate it, in radio, you expect to hear something and you're taken aback when you get something else, in this case (being radio), you can leave the building. Big difference. And as far as the Supremes being the greatest girl group in of all time, sales? sure but as far as people listening to them just because they are who they are? That's subject to opinions and there's just as many people who dislike them as with other over played, burnt, fried artists like the Stones and Zepplin. Being part of history is a two edged sword and Diana Ross is not part of a Freestyle history last time I checked. Just a thought fellas.

And yet, KTU has on more then one occasion played a Rock anthem in the afternoon, or in some of their mixes.

Oops!

Judy had the night off and some guy filled in for her.Personally,I prefer to hear Cynthia filling in for Judy.I gotta say though, that the show wouldn't be the same without Judy hosting it.And yes, It was KTU that I was listening to as I listened to the show online (I don't live in the tri-state area).

Btw,I'm a hugh freestyle fan but I also listen to all types of dance music and non-dance music alike.I was in the mood for some freestyle so I tuned in online as I usually do on sun nights.

You sure it wasn't on Al Bandiero's Clubhouse early in the night?
Or maybe they just wanted to shock the listeners by playing something you wouldn't expect.

I definitely agree. If Judy had the night off, then some artist in the freestyle genre should have filled in, or at least have a regular on air personality just do the show without going into other genres.

And we all wonder WHY they are pointing downwards in the ratings.

MusicloverII is right. Radio is radio. 1 song, placed wrong, can cost you listeners tuning out and not back in. KTU has always had competition. Now they have CBS radio competing directly. Time to buck up.

While it is cool to drop in certain tunes to radio geeks, for the common user, it is an invite to press another preset.

I love KTU, but there is room to tighten up a bit.
______________

Come on now do you really think we would play Miss Ross duriing the Freestyle show? That was not played on KTU, it must have been a signal cross.

BTW..Judy does have a huge influence on the music picked for her show...she is very VERY involved with the music....She is the Queen of Freestyle, it would be a huge mistake to not have her involved in the music.

The person that filled in for Judy was Bartel...the Music Director of KTU....and an incredibe jock!
