I stopped going to Music Midtown after year 3. I'm not fond of walking in baby steps all day, waiting in long lines for over priced beer & water, and having an overall miserable time.

Since I don't attend Music Midtown ever, I can't say if I'd be happy if it went away or not, but I can say that I'm sure there are plenty others like me who don't go for the exact same reasons. <P ID="signature">______________

Pretty much my thoughts as well. Sounds like a living hell on earth to me, always has.

That was my first thought when I read the article, but after thinking about the SUPER WEAK lineup this past year, I'm kind of glad it's over. The whole thing was just a ripoff of the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis anyway.

Super weak? Wow. I thought the lineup this year was fantastic. I'm sure the bad weather put a major damper on their hopes for a crowd. I've been to a couple of MMs that were too crowded. This year it rained like crazy and it was actually enjoyable actually being able to see the bands on stage (as opposed to little ants).

I don't know if this was a Beale Street ripoff, but it's not like putting up a bunch of stages with great music is some earth-shattering idea. It's simply awesome for people who like to see acts they love and some they'd never check out w/out this type of environment. The price has always been a great deal, even this year.

Weak lineup? I still can't figure that one out. Either you are into Lawrence Welk, Nickelback or hoping for a Beatles reunion. Probably Nickelback.

"[Peter Conlin] also said that Music Midtown was hurt more by an advance front-page Atlanta Journal-Constitution story about the traffic that the city anticipated from the weekend events."

If Conlin imagines that his average attendee gets his/her news from the AJC, then he's more disassociated from the average fan than I might have imagined.

There was a negative financial incentive (ticketmaster charges) for people to buy their tickets prior to the event. So, people, come the day of the show, said well...do I really want to pay $75.00 to stand in the rain.

The sad thing about it, was that this year was a very strong line up.

Try Mudvayne, System of a Down, Shadows Fall, Shinedown, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, bands like that that were missing this year. At least last year there was Smile Empty Soul and Trapt.

Agreed. Plus add in the fact that they've gone up in ticket prices by about 40 bucks since 2001 and there's my reasons for not going.

Kind of what I figured. These are bands that have almost KILLED the fun in rock and roll. I hope that MM never wastes time with most of these acts. Ick.

I stopped going about 3 years ago.. It seemed that they had maybe 2 or 3 good acts and the rest has been's.. It also didn't help that the current locale is not conducive to good concerts. (the first venue was awesome, especially getting to go to Smith's Old Bar and getting "retail" refreshments. Rain has always been part of the equation so I don't think that's the issue.
1. high prices
2. weak talent
3. poor venue location
4. loss of Alex Cooley..
