WHY CBS-FM?

Better yet....

WHY NOT WNEW?????

Save the oldies and blow up that pterodactyl sphincter of an abomination!!!

Infinity deserves to have to sell all of their stations at a loss.
______________

> WHY CBS-FM?

Why not? Would you expect anything else from a company whose track record, at least in New York, is tanking formerly successful radio stations?

WCBS-FM began to decline when they dropped the 50's and 60's music and the Sunday night "Doo Wop Shop". The station became unlistenable to my ears over the past year or so, as I have a very low tolerance for all the dreck that they were playing from the 70's and 80's.

Of course, Infinity took WNEW-FM right into the toilet. Nowadays, that station is a member of the Format of the Month Club. The logical thing would have been to flip that station to the Jack format...but then, we are talking about Infinity, aren't we?

I work for Infinity, and I'm still scratching my head over this one. I've said enough.

In 6 months WCBS-FM will be a one share! You can find all the songs they play other places. There is NO special reason to listen! They will be sorry they made the change. Watch the entire top brass of Infinity get blown out! They do not have a clue what to do! Next is K-ROCK, Then WNEW-FM What to do with this Titanic! This company is in deep do do!

Could WPLJ get smart? WABC-FM? Shannon could pull it off!

Some of us rubes who post on the Buffalo board have been reading "The Big Board," to keep up with the latest events following Infinity's switching WCBS-FM to Jack.

Infinity just a few weeks ago flipped its Buffalo Hot Talk WBUF-FM to Jack, after barely six months of doing Hot Talk. Unlike WCBS-FM which was a heritage Oldies format at one time, WBUF-FM was more like WNEW-FM. With the exception of Howard in AM Drive, WBUF was doing diddly-squat in the ratings, using a line-up of Don & Mike, Lykis and assorted other satellite gasbags. Brother Wease, their morning guy from WCMF Rochester, was the only "local" guy on the station, doing middays.

Infinity must have an affinity for spinning the Wheel O' Formats. WBUF went through AC, Smooth Jazz, Alice, Dancin' Oldies and Hot Talk, none of which lasted more than two years. That's got to be some kind of (sorryass) record. Sounds a lot like what WNEW-FM has gone through.

What's worse, Jack stations run like jukeboxes. Live, music intensive in morning drive and Prophet, Scott or AudioVault doing the heavy lifting the rest of the day. Market #1 and it's nothing more than a hard drive connected to a 50kW transmitter. If this isn't a cost-cutting move, I don't know what is. What I do know is, some consultant and licensing company is making a lotta jack peddling radio snake oil.

Pity.

Understand that Buffalo is a different animal than New York City. If a Jack replaced WHTT, I'm sure it would get probably half as much backlash as the one here is getting from their loyal listeners. I do agree that I'd never see the day that a music station with zero DJ's round-the-clock would be in Market No. 1. But it's the evolution of radio, what can I say.

On a side note, I do hope Brother Wease is rebounding from his illness.
______________

This is a smart idea! I'm sure flipping PLJ to ABC FM and bringing back oldies but not just 70's but 50's 60's and 70's as well as bringing back some of the old jingles would certainly do better in the ratings then what they are doing now. Shannon could pull it off. He could have a morning zoo type show like he started at Z100 back in 1982 and play oldies. It would certainly fill the gap.
PLJ really has no identity.

I agree with all of these comments. It seems that the FCC allowed these "giant" companies to buy up all of these stations and ruin them. Is REALLY serving the public? I don't think so. What a shame?!!!!!

None of the other Jack's across the country are down to a 1 share, most do pretty well, especially 25-54. Of course it's too early to tell if the format is viable for the longterm.

This is the problem with this format. It's not daring at all. "We play what we feel like"....big whoopdie doo! More like "we play what the consultants tell us to, all the safe titles. And we'll hang a fancy slogan on it so it SOUNDS like we have a large library".

They will be sorry they made the change. Watch

Oh, I emphatically agree here, Murph! "Musicradio WABC"...use that as a generic jingle/positioner only calling the station WABC-FM upon the TOH. And now, with all the WABC jocks that were on CBS-FM free and clear ABC would foolish not to seize this opportunity. Or, maybe we're the minority that thinks oldies can still make it in 2005.
______________

Here in Chicago at WJMK, responders are stating the jocks like Biondi and Fred Winston are still under contract. They are broadcasting oldies on their internet stream. Anything like that happening in NYC?

AMEN... a station like that here in NY where we need traffic and news info to stay atop and away from 1-2 hour delays on the road could lead to ratings death especially at all important drive times...

I do find it interesting that Infinity chose WCBS for
the format change rather than WNEW. WCBS was about #10
in the ratings whereas WNEW was in the very bottom of
the pack (2nd from last I think).
I doubt that Infinity will bring back the Oldies format,
but maybe some other company that wants to move up will
do so.
I think as I mentioned to oldiescat that I will go and
buy some stock in one of the radio companies just so
I can have my say at the share holders meetings. Maybe
if all the oldies listeners in the US did that to one
company they would listen a little better.
Probably not though

As much as I want an "Oldies" station, I can't sign that with CD101.9 as an option. I'd rather see WBLS, Power 105 or Kiss FM go before 101.9. Univision has two frequencies for the same station, what about them?
______________

For coverage purposes. 105.9's signal is very shabby in some areas, especially Long Island, which is why they purchased 92.7 WLIR from Morey last year, so they can specifically simulcast WCAA's format on it. It is a simulcast, with 92.7's calls now being WZAA.
______________

The petition is not well written and has errors
in it. I can't imagine anyone being moved to change
his or her mind reading this petition.

I know, I was being cheeky. The loss of WLIR on 92.7 is still a stinging thorn in my side.
______________
