A lot of listeners (and radio people too for that matter) can't get beyond the contrast of the "wholesome" life she and brother Richard lived and the tragic way that she died (Bulimia). ...
... Most radio programmers (who are predominately males) interpret music that has this effect on their audience as "not testing well" and therefore does not make the playlist.

Kinda makes you miss the days of
".. it's got a good beat and i can dance to it. I give it an 85 Mr. Clark."

The single was released in 1974, reached number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and "easy listening" charts, and was certified a gold record. The album was released in June 1975.

Chart (1974) Peak position
U.S. Billboard Hot 100 1
U.S. Billboard Easy Listening 1
Record World (January 25, 1975) 1
Canadian Singles Chart 1
Oricon International Singles Chart 1
Oricon (Japanese) Singles Chart 11
UK Singles Chart 2

R&R concurs. Not a "mid chart" stiff.

"Another Park Another Sunday" -- not even close. Shouldn't be played. #32 peak. "Black Water" -same album -- #1.

Now, you talking "oldies" pop or "classic hits?" Big difference. I'd skip the Carps on "Classic Hits" but for "oldies" -- ok.

'Another Park, Another Sunday' was the A-side single. The B-side was...
... 'Black Water'. One Urban Legend has it that the man who first flipped the record over was Chuck Holloway then at WROV-AM in Roanoke (later WKZL).

My dear friends. I do not work for Majic 94.1! I have been on this board for quite a long time. I recently moved to this area and really love Majic 94.1. I am totally neutral to this area. Feel free to check out my posts on the Atlanta board going back at least six or seven years. I have many years in radio (retired) and find WTHZ (by far) the best station that I hear up here. Why all of the negativity in here? Could it be because WHTZ is still LOCALLY owned and operated? Too many stations in this market sound like sad clones. The Wolf???? How creative is that for a country music station name??? There must be at least 300 "Wolf" country stations in the US! That is just one example. And what against the Carpeters??? "Please Mr. Postman" is a fantastic song. We are lucky to have a great Oldies station here like Majic that is playing a very large playlist! Majic 94.1 is also filling a huge hole in the Charlotte area. They had Magic 96.1 for many years that was an Oldies powerhouse. Then, they had a weak automated Oldies 106.1. I can pick up Majic 94.1 all the way down I-40 and I-85 through Charlotte to the South Carolina State Line almost to Gaffney, S.C.!!!! CLEARLY!!! One hell of a signal playing the great Oldies!!! God bless them all and keep up the great work WTHZ!!!

Exactly! Just because Majic isn't like all other "oldies/classic hits" stations that won't touch "Another Park, Another Sunday" but have no problem playing "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" every three hours! I'll bet Cheap Channel would love to get their hands on WHTZ and turn it into a spanish rap/dance station, or better yet, another country station! :p

Yes you have a lot of posts on the Atlanta board, but you state you have been on this board for "quite a long time" NOT, you just registered July 17, 2008..Far cry from a long time.. Fess up! From what I hear, you would have to have worked at 94.1 to understand the negativity. The behind-the-scenes ain't pretty!

I'm not buying into your story about being new to the area either. Interesting that you would mention The Wolf as just being another clone name for a country station. Well, HELLLLL-OOOOO! How many clones of Magic (Majic) are there out there??? 400? 500? This name first popped up in the 1970's! Besides, not only did 94.1 steal the name, but the logo as well!

C'mon....stop giving these guys that run 94.1 credit for having any smarts at all. No, wait! They DID actually do something right when they fired that sad morning show a while back. One small step for man, but hardly a cure for all of their other problems!

Once again, I AM new to this srea. My observations are fresh to this area, and I LOVE the oldies on Majic 94.1!

It's "Majic!" With a "J!" Most of the others have a G!
That's original!
Right?
Right?

i'd like to know why it was chosen as maJic instead of maGic. in Gainesville, GA maJic 102.9 was apparently chosen because of available call letters, WMJE.

i'd also like to know why 99.5 ever stopped using magic in the first place. listeners still call it magic.

reason probably no clue to what they are doing. you can tell they have no pd that has a clue of what to do. station is a toxic waste

Well, since you are so new to this area and have nothing to do but promote Majic 94 in your spare time, I'll give you something to do!

Maybe this 373 page Objection to the change of City of License and engineering study, I am getting ready to file with the Commission will keep you busy reading all weekend and then you can "go back to posting on the Atlanta Board as you say you have been!!

Hey Admin, I post the entire document on the board or just provide a link! ;D ;D THE BIG APE NEXT!

Don't get me wrong, this opinion of the music on 94.1 is certainly not just limited to "Please Mr. Postman" (which played again today in midday), but songs like The Doobies - "Another Park, Another Sunday" (STIFF), Steve Forbert "Romeo's Tune" (WHAT??!!), Nu Shooze, Jody Watley.....These titles and or artists are not worthy enough to get any airplay on a classic hits format! In fact, the Steve Forbert song, E,W&F "Serpentine Fire and Neil Diamond "Longfellow Seranade all played today in the same hour! My god! All three of those were mid-chart songs and DO NOT test well! Better yet, I also heard Get Down Tonight (KC) played next to Shake Your Groove thing in another hour! Wow! Disco fever!
Or how about the Stones, Doobies, Duran Duran and the Beatles all back to back! Wow! Now were a classic rocker!
This station doesn't have a clue and they never will until the wanna-be's that run it are out the door. It takes skill to schedule music and the person(s) doing it now has no programming sense.
We could go into their awful imaging but that's another post for another day.
Have a nice day.

Thank God they are playing something besides all safe songs that test well. I am sick of only hear songs that test well. Oldies has become currents that NEVER GO AWAY!. (just my opinion)

Ape you can't bake the cake because you don't have the recipe. Also the Dog's name was actually Brandy but of course there was already a "fine girl" by that name! ;D
