WTHZ-FM Majic 94.1 sounding great-Increases Oldies playlist!!!!!!!

I like the music on WTHZ it's one of the few stations I can stand anymore. Don't work there, never have worked there and I don't know anything about what goes on behind the scenes. I think there is a lot of sour grapes around here from people who have been burned by the station.

You guys really like Clear Channel, Entercom, and CBS? Ugh what the heck is that all about?

Hey Ape, just like you I have been fired from some of America's best radio stations. I don't hold a grudge, their loss!

Think you hit the nail on the head! There really seems to be a small group of former radio persons or former employees who seem to create the majority of the talk on these boards. No matter which board you read there is a constant thread of angry thoughts. It appears that in all most every markets there are a host of armchair quarterbacks that all have the answers that will save radio. Who really cares? Here in the windy city we have the same kind of postings every day.

i'd like to know why it was chosen as maJic instead of maGic. in Gainesville, GA maJic 102.9 was apparently chosen because of available call letters, WMJE.

i'd also like to know why 99.5 ever stopped using magic in the first place. listeners still call it magic.

As I seem to remember, WMAG dropped maGic when they wanted to shift the format a bit(?around 1994?). It looks like WTHZ picked maJic to sneak into the memories of Majic in Charlotte that had dropped oldies and at 94.1 it was close to 93.1 which had dropped oldies. The signal does reach both markets. Never hurts to have the listeners think they already know what you are.

If you have to keep saying magic with a J, then I don't think it's a good idea. How about Hits 94.1 the greatest hits of the 60's, 70's, and 80's?

Therz way too much mizpelling of wordz going on today. We need to set examplez for all the little boyz and girlz. Yaz noz what I meanz?

Kid in school is asked by the teacher how to spell relief, the kid says r-o-l-a-i-d-s!

Back to the topic at hand. Give them a little credit. They are playing a deeper variety, they are resisting that trend to overdo the playlist with 80's tunes. They actually get out in the community, they are as close to LOCAL as you can get nowadays. So what if they play Mandy and the Carpenters Please Mr. Postman I for one as host of a non-com terrestrial show for a station located adjacent to a the largest market in the Carolina's who's program mines a lot of the same territory should be ticked not you guys! It's the little guy at the non-com who is supposed to get that easy job of breaking out those forgotten songs the market researchers have decreed by their infallible methodology to be irreverent. Makes it just that much harder to find stuff they would never break out. Boo Hiss on them!

BTW- Anyone heard them play Timothy?

The Rupert Holmes cannabalism song by The Buoys?

Yea, heard it.

Now, if they play Bloodrock's immortal "D.O.A.", then I'LL be convinced! ;D

I'm sure that the programming genius at 94.1 has heard your plea for some of those obscure blasts from the past! I have no doubt that you'll hear them soon.....just keep those requests comin' in!

After seeing them mentioned on another board, I listened for a bit on line today. Sounded good, I love the 70's, but a posting mentioning that they are now playing "a very large playlist of mostly 60`s Oldies" was a bit misleading. I did finally hear a weather jingle that sounded on target, but that Weather Girls song "It's Raining Men" before it was not for me, I turned it off.
Over all though, the station sounded alright. To me.

What I like about Majic 94.1 is simple--they are still LOCAL and LIVE during the day. Mid-dayer Steve Finnigan said something the other day that really says it all..."Call me 'cause I'm the only 'live jock' on-the-air right now!" Their syndicated shows at night and on the weekend also fit nicely.

As for their music, there are lots of folks, who still love music from the 60's and 70's with some mixed in from the 80's. Tom Collins has put a nice mix of music on-the-air. It reminds me of when he programmed 98.7 WRQK, which was a great station!

As for their transmitter and tower move to Faith, NC, it will position them better to serve the Charlotte market, as well as, the Triad. Smart move Gig!

I listened to WTHZ for several hours today and a couple yesterday afternoon and did not find anything way out of line musically. I heard a number of jingles and a lot of listenere interaction .. morning Trivia .. morning contest .. live morning news .. guess that would be another plus, the station is live from 6am - 7pm everyday except Sunday. There was a previous comment about Steve Finnegan being the only person live on the radio was correct. The station may not have all the whistles and bells that some of you want but it sounds pretty good to me.
