WTIC AM 1080 - Why are the ratings tanking?

WTIC AM 1080's ratings have been tanking lately. I remember they used to be consistently in the Top 3. Now they're in 8th place behind Classic Rocker 102.9 The Whale.

Why are the ratings taking?

1. Is it because The Redsox are in last place?

2. Is it because listeners are fed up with Rush Limbaugh?

3. Is it because they're airing a 4 hour Sports-Talk show - Joe D & Gresh in PM Drive?

4. Is it fall out from laying off News Director Dana Whalen?

There should be a response #5, "none of the above". The reason it's fallen so in the ratings is what I call noise pullution. Listen to the news, which used to start promptly on the hour. Now, once the commercial, or even a host still talking on the hour, is over, we get 20 to 30 seconds of hype and BS, telling us how great the news coverage is. This is accompanied by an unbearable "noise", don't know what else to call it. It's certainly not music. Sometimes it's so loud that it's impossible to hear what the newscaster is saying. Totally annoying. Glad I have radio buttons on my steering wheel to quickly change the station to one that starts news promptly on the hour. And the station promos, for news, sports, weather, whatever, are totally annoying, driving listeners away. And of late, they seem to be struggling to find an identity. Can't decide if they want to be a news/talk or a sports station. Bob Steele must be turning over in his grave. Oh. I got the October ratings today, and although still in 8th place, TIC has dipped a bit lower since September. Not surprising. Looks like they're safe, at least for a while, from slipping into 9th place.

The Red Sox certainly didn't help. Neither does UConn football, a program that shouldn't exist, with no quality recruiting area to draw from, stuck in a conference everyone else is looking to get out of.
