Wtic am 1080

Surprised this is not being talked about here.

Looks like WTIC is no more... well at least the way we knew it.

Seems to be its All Sports Talk now... which makes no sense since they got rid of Joe D and Gresh on Friday...

They also got rid of Air 1 for traffic reports.

Their website has not been updated... still shows old schedule.

It will be interesting to see if we still have Rush as noon.

Well they still have Rush on at Noon... and news too...

I listened for quite sometime this morning and they sounded the same as always. And you won't hear Rush today. They're carrying the annual early start time Patriots Day Red Sox game.

As for Gresh, I believe he left on his own. He is going back to Providence to do a nightly 6 - 9 p.m. sports talk show on Cumulus WPRO-AM 630. The show was announced earlier this month.

Are you listening online? If so, I believe MLB baseball doesn't allow radio stations to air games over the streams so the stations will usually carry their regular programming.

And all CBS radio stations nationwide changed their traffic reporting to an in-house service on 4/1. Some of the traffic reporters made the switch, others didn't.

Today's fill in host (don't recall his name) said that an announcement on the new show will be later this week. Did not sound like it will be another sports show.

If Joe and Gresh failed, I doubt they would go "all sports". Probably find another conservative talk show host. We will know in a few days. I know they have dropped in the ratings on the last book.

Another right-winger would hardly improve ratings in the money demo, though. Sports is really the only kind of talk that attracts under 55s to any great degree. With WUCS's third-rate signal (spotty coverage south and east of the city as it has to protect WCTY and WSKQ), maybe a flip to sports for 'TIC-AM makes some sense. It already has rights to UConn and Red Sox pbp as well as Giants and Pats football, while WUCS has only the Yankees and a bunch of national feeds from ESPN and Westwood 1.

We don't need another sports station. Did we forget about WPOP-AM 1410 of Hartford already? I think they air the Hartford Yard Goats games (AA-level Colorado Rockies). Also, WDRC-AM 1360 of Hartford already mentioned that they're not airing any New Britain Bees baseball games this year.

Not sure what your point is about WPOP, which is now right-wing talk except for when it's airing Yard Goats games. (Do they still carry CCSU basketball in the winter? There's another real audience grabber!) IHeart flipped it to conservative talk from all-sports because the ESPN brand had been transferred to sister station WUCS and there really was no reason for WPOP to exist as a sports talker anymore.

You're right about the Bees -- internet only for their games this season. The Bridgeport Bluefish are in the same league (Atlantic). Do they have a radio deal? Have they ever had one?

Ok on Monday I was wrong, I was listening to the online stream, which was running a sports show, I am told this is different then was was actually on air on 1080.

Mike Allen is still there, just no more Air 1 (or Car 1) reports. He's in the studio now (or doing it from his home) Its kind of strange hearing 3 traffic reporters in the morning now (Gerri, Mike and Mark) I can only wonder how long they will keep that going.

The new show that will replace Joe D and Gresh will be the Todd Feinburg Show starting on Monday at 3 PM.

BTW Joe D will be back on the air tomorrow filling in for Wayne doing Sports.

The announcement came today "WTIC AM NewsTalk 1080 Announces Afternoons With Todd Feinburg" who will take over the Joe and Gresh 3-6 PM time slot

Not sure about that unless the Hartford Courant's TV sports listing is incorrect because they keep listing the Bees games on WDRC. Maybe the Courant did not get the memo...lol

Probably just using last year's information. The Bees have no radio deal for 2017 -- link on the website goes to YouTube.

I don't have any issues with WUCS signal heading south. I can hold it fairly strong right until Old Saybrook, To be fair WFAN holds strong through most of the state so Yankee games are not really an issue. POP on the other hand was a bear to hear 20 miles outside of Hartford.
