WTIC and The UCONN Huskies getting divorced

Meh. They should flip WTIC to all-sports. It would definitly blow WUCS out of the water with WTIC's much superior signal.

Also for the past 2 seasons WTIC has carried both The Giants and The Patriots and when there was a conflict The Patriots were shipped out to The Talk of Connecitcut. I wonder if this arrangement will continue now that The Talk of Connecticut has been bought by Full Power Radio.
Even with 50,000 watts 1080 sounds like garbage compared to WUCS. No hum or static.

So UConn said they wanted to be on WUCS for a while, maybe the over charged TIC knowing they would turn it down.

>Any news on what happens to Joe D. Will he be hired by WUCS to do Uconn games?

No announcements have been made yet about pbp annnouncers for UCONN men's and women's games.

Are the now former announcers under contract with WTIC or UConn? Would Joe D have to be bought out if they did decide to retain him or is he free to move.

Don't get this move at all in terms of coverage. As someone else mentioned, WUCS's signal is lucky to get out of Hartford and i cannot receive it at all in Montville. WTIC wasn't great either but at least it was reasonable to listen to.

I have no issue getting WUCS as far south as Essex. Once you get near the open sound it gets interfered with.

On I-91, I start having trouble with it in Wallingford. By North Haven, it starts losing the war with New York's WSKQ. There are even dead spots where the signal gets flaky around the Berlin/Meriden line. It is not a good signal for the entire Hartford market. Putting the games on a New Haven FM would help immensely, but there are likely none that will want to break format for a who-cares men's team in a who-cares league and a women's team that has never lost a game in its joke league. And the football program will never be anything.

Hmm. Well i've lost it once I get onto Route 11. I was being sarcastic haha but the signal is lousy at best. It's perfect for Hartford but that's about it

I notice a lot of Hartford stations go south once you get near Norwich. The whole eastern part of the state is a dead zone for Hartford radio. Head towards the casinos and it's hard to pick up anything from Hartford.

I have no issues with WUCS south on Route 9. When Yankee games were on WPOP I would lose the signal in Middletown. Hell I would lose the signal in Manchester.

It really depends. Currently in montville I do fairly well with hartford stations. I get all the major ones fairly easy. I get 100.5, 102.9. 96.5, 95.7, 93.7 and a few others fairly well with no static. Once I go east of that like Voluntown, Sterling area it changes. They mostly come in but filled with static. 93.7 struggles from the Casino eastward due to 93.7 WEEI in Boston area interfering. Doesn't 660 have yankees games? you should use that instead.

Once I get along the shore WFAN comes in perfect. Depending on the weather I can usually hear it fairly well most anywhere in CT. Like with all AM I go get static and dead zones in the city. I like that UCS comes in cleaner being FM.

One has to remember that WUCS-FM 97.9 was once WPKX-FM 97.9 of Enfield/Springfield. It served as Springfield's country station as "KIX 97.9". The current transmitter sits atop City Place on Asylum Street in Hartford, across from the XL Center. It has a directional signal pattern due to WCTY-FM 97.7 of Norwich, which was already in place for several years.

iHeart's WELI 960-AM is already the New Haven affiliate of The UCONN Huskies and the New York Yankees. The Mets are on sister station ESPN 1300. I know financially it makes no sense, but I wish they would move WUCS to 105.9 and The River to 97.9

I don't think you will ever see WHCN on anything but 105.9 and why would they. Maybe bring back the walrus though.

How stupid can WUCS be, why would I want to listen to UConn football get blown out by UCF when they could be airing the Yankees game? Going to be a huge ratings hit for them tonight.

>How stupid can WUCS be, why would I want to listen to UConn football get blown out by UCF when they could be airing the Yankees game?

I guess the contract calls for WUCS to air UCONN instead of the Yankees. This was the same deal with WTIC, with that station having to air UCONN instead of the Red Sox, even in post season.

So what happens during basketball season when you have the men and women on at the same time. Are they going to use an overflow?

WPOP 1410 was supposed to be the overflow station, but they are the flagship station of The Goats Minor League Baseball team.

I remember a few times back in the day more than 20 years ago.

1080: UCONN MEN
96.5: UCONN Women.
93.7 Whaler's Hockey.
