WTIC and The UCONN Huskies getting divorced

WPOP 1410 was supposed to be the overflow station, but they are the flagship station of The Goats Minor League Baseball team.

I remember a few times back in the day more than 20 years ago.

1080: UCONN MEN
96.5: UCONN Women.
93.7 Whaler's Hockey.

The Yard Goats probably pay for their airtime and sell the advertising themselves. I wonder if their contract specifies that the games must go out over 1410's analog signal or if iHeart has legal wiggle room to throw the game onto one of its HDs.

Of course, this UConn men/UConn women conflict won't come up again until the UConn men start playing basketball deep into April. Given the current state of the program, that's not likely to happen this year or anytime soon.

TIC-FM was the overflow for the ladies up until the contract ended.

Why not use 105.9 for the new overflow. They can keep it on FM. I would not turn to WPOP if they offered me money.

It is stupid that those on campus can't even pick up the signal. But I wonder how many students still listen to the radio.

It's good that both football and men's basketball are close to irrelevance these days. And since most of the support for the women's basketball team seems to come not from students but from grandmas and grandpas sitting at home watching the games on TV, the radio broadcasts will likely hardly be missed on campus.

That's probably true. What were UConn's radio ratings the past few years? The AAC can't be helping anybody. Who wants to listen to the football program, and the women blow out the competition by 70 each game. Why bother listen.

Second blowout of the year for the football team. Is 1080 breathing a little easier now? Of course the bread and butter for UConn is basketball season.
