WTIC doesn't use ballgame mode for HD

nd2023

I was at the Rutgers/UConn game at Rutgers tonight and listened to WTIC 1080 for a little bit during the game. It was an away game for UConn. I noticed that the commentary was exactly 8 seconds after the action happened on the field. The IBUZ didn't make it to New Jersey on the skywave but I assume that it kept the HD on during the game. The Rutgers affiliate WOR 710 turned off the IBUZ during the game as the commentary was live and I could also hear the Reds/Phillies game on WLW 700.

I wonder if WTIC keeps the HD delay on for UConn home games.

Now would there be a point for being live for a Red Sox game and not live for a UConn game? I'm sure at least some people would listen to WTIC 1080 at an away game.

WTIC turns off the HD right before kickoff for the UConn Rentschuler games and resumes HD during the postgame show. It is my experience that they have kept the HD on during Red Sox and Rockcat baseball games. Listening to the Rockcats at New Britain Stadium, I get the live feed from WMRD 1150 on my beatup Sony Walkman.

WMRD-AM 1150 come in fine for me during the day in New Britain's south end. Their night time signal, while weaker, is still stable enough to listen to.

As for a delay with WTIC-AM 1080's signal, just compare a Red Sox regular season game between them and WEEI-FM 103.7 FM of Westerly/Providence (which is marginal for me). Sometimes WEEI-FM will be at least 15 seconds ahead, sometimes almost 20 seconds ahead of WTIC-AM.

15 or 20 seconds is a big delay. Thats to long in my opinion.

Does 1410 have a delay when broadcasting the Yanks from WCBS 880 ?

The last time I checked, it was still delayed several seconds behind WPOP-AM. As for the Yankees, you'll have to wait until at least Friday night now.

Ahead of the main channel WCBS 880 really. Dang
the news is 8 seconds faster in VT on 102.3 Kiss 102 up in VT/NH than it is on 880 AM...

WCBS 880 shuts off their HD delay for the games. They turn it on during the post game show.

However there are probably other delays (i.e. STL delays, etc) that make some of it come back.
