WTIC Vs. WKSS in Springfield

I find it interesting how WTIC bombs in Springfield's market but KISS pulls solid 3-5's.........And Kiss has the weaker signal...........reasons? thoughts? And yet WTIC is back on top..........finally

Being from CT, I prefer WTIC. They have excellent classic rock/mixed 70s 80s 90s music on Wednesdays and weekends. Their mix of other music on other days is good too.

Simple....WTIC-FM is hot AC, music that is already available on popular locals 93.1 and 94.7. Kiss, on the other hand, is straightforward CHR - a format not locally available in Springfield. Comparing them is a bit like comparing oranges and limes; yeah, theres a bit of overlap, but the tastes are quite different.

WZMX does well up there too, for the same reason: it offers a format (CHR/U) not available locally in Springfield.

Just curious...was WAQY the last local Springfield metro station with a CHR format?

When I was with WMAS back in the late 70's under then PD Mike Adams we slowly evolved out of Disco 95 to FM 95 and actually had a CHR format...but it only lasted a few months at most before slipping into AC back when Phil D was GM there.

When did WMAS change from branding themselves as "95" to "94.7?"

Also, I've noticed that WMAS has changed, even since the late 90s. It was still an AC station back then, but I remember they used to play a lot more of the obscure songs. I think after WHYN became Hot AC, I think WMAS started becoming a normal AC station. Correct?
