WTIX-FM: HORRIBLE STATION

Their music really sucks! Instead of the hits they play flip sides and weak follow-up releases to the hits. Where are the HITS?? And the morning show is Westwego trailer park radio at its worst. I'd rather KOOL come back with the same 200 hits than this junk heap with 5,000 trash songs.

Am I alone in this opinion??

yes..i like tix fm. sounds like a radio station from 1979. and the owner doesnt care about consultants..:)

I agree with ksw, worse sounding station I have ever heard

it sounds like 690 wtix cira 1980. why do you not like it because you dont hear the same crap all the other worthless stations across the country do. wtix is the saviour of radio in new orleans. its the only station worth listning to.

i guess the ones that don't like tix-fm are not from the area and didn't know
tix-am back in the day.. i can see a little need for improvement but it's
a lot better than kool after corporate got a hold of it..

Hmmmmm....grew up with tix in the 60's....it never sounded as awful as this "fake" tix sounds

its not a copy of the 60s tix..but of the early 80s tix.

I was born and raised here. I know all the old "tix's."
To suggest that WTIX is a "Savior" is scary.
That's just a silly statement.
That you like it, is fine, but a "SAVIOR!"
No, I think "Mikey's Jukebox" is awful, but that's just my opinion.
To each his own.

I'm a big fan of WTIX-fm. I relocated to the New York City/New Jersey area after Katrina. And boy, do I miss TIX-fm! I love those B Sides and minor hits that Michael has in rotation! Along with some of the classic New Orleans hits that no other Oldies station in the country plays, TIX- fm is unique and I miss it! In fact, on a quick return trip at the end of August into early September, my dial will be locked on TIX-fm. I've got one choice on the radio dial up here for oldies, and it's a little "AMer" out of Morristown NJ which comes in with lots of fuzz. Boy, do I ever miss TIX-fm!

Re: DOES MIKE COSTELLO OWN ROCK 106.3 OUT OF THIBODAUX?

Does Mike Costello own Rock 106.3 out of Thibodaux? Sure sounds like he does because unlike other rock stations in N.O. they play alot of home grown rock like JJ Muggler, Zebra tunes besides who's behind the door, Lillian Axe, Cowboy Mouth, J.B. Elston Band, and some tunes we've haven't heard in twenty years like Hustlin' Hollywood by Persia(circa WRNO Rock Album from the Early 80's compliments of Mr. Costello)
Liiks like Mr. Costello has a vision and it's starting to pay off. It's great to hear local flavored radio again.
In the words of the late and great Buddy Diliberto, CORPORATE RADIO CONSULTANTS ARE A BUNCH OF SQUIRRELS...........

Re: WTIX-FM: GREAT LOCALLY FLAVORED STATION

How about this for an idea:
Since Bob Walker has Sgt. T-Ben Boudreaux in the afternoon for traffic, How about Mike Costello have Jay Hooks as a sidekick for news in the morning. Both are extremely funny.

When did they play JJ mugler and stuff on Rock 106.3? Haven't heard much of the homegrown that's why I asked..

But nope, the Costellos sold out back in the late 1990s... It was about the same time they sold WRNO worldwide

It was first sold to Guaranty broadcasting out of Baton Rouge but has been sold to sunburst media out of Dallas as of this year.

How does playing a non-hit from a now-disbanded, goofily-named ("JJ Muggler"?!) unsigned local band from a town 100 miles away add anything to the potential success of 106.3? No program director worth his salt would play stuff you can't even buy in the local record store or via iTunes.

As for WTIX, it has potential like all those Jack stations but is ruined by poor execution. Hitting F10 and letting Selector do all the "work" is no way to run a radio station.

This board seems to be filled with non-sensical posts!

why should they play it?? because we like it..and it still available at record stores (lp-vinyl) nationwide. just like all the zebra albums. and the le roux albums. why should stations have to stick to the same crappy 200 songs over and over again? i'll take my radio without the CONsultant seasoning mix..

Uhhhhh, I will need your address so I can mail you a clue. If you like it so much, get your own station(www.fcc.gov), play those records, and try to sell it on the streets against the so-called CONsultant mix. I would wager a week's pay your station will be dark in less than a year. Unless you want to do an NPR style begathon for money to pay your bills. Entergy will not be sympathetic to your pleas of "good taste in music for a change" while they are disconnecting your transmitter mains. OMFG, what a load of crap!

Put up or shut up.

What "record" stores? Floyd's in Ville Platte? Sam Goody's and Tower are in bankruptcy and there's virtually no vinyl in those stores or anywhere since the majors stopped making LP's fifteen years ago.

Usually a station will have a hour or two set up to play local stuff for the bar fans and to be used as a secondary excuse as servicing the local need (Hey we are spotlighting non famous local people and helping the community grow yada yada)

Also a station will advertise such hour and it's usually on a saturday night when those same people are cruising from bar to bar .. But KXOR hasn't done that under Sunburst (and that has basically been start of the year) from what I can tell... Guaranty did do it last year for a while one night a week if I remember

But KXOR has gotten away from the extremely stale same 200 songs it inherited from Guaranty and added new music to the list... yes they lost some of the older fans, but most of them moved to a sister a/c station

I'm getting off topic... but With WTIX, it's a place that plays songs I haven't heard in 25 years but most oldies fans are like other demos... If Mike would stay with a cookie cutter oldies format and add say one or two songs an hour off his personal list.. I don't think the people would be so clear cut for and against this station... Or have say a 3 hour lost gold hour...
