WTIX Update Question

I know a lot of you don like TIX-fm, I want to know if anybody has checked what the status on this station( Construction of the new transmitter, tower, and corp of engineers red tape, etc.) I know the transmitter was near the levee in Plaqumines parrish, and I guess they are still on a backup tower in Harrahan, so I cannot receive TIx in South Lafourche.

i didn't know they lost their tower.... ??? when i took a trip to baton rouge from new orleans, i was able to receive wtix almost all the way to br. of course, i never made my way down deep into plaquemines parish since pre katrina. the farthest i've ever been was port sulphur.

for those interested, if you head south on hwy 23, the tower is on the right. it's just before you get into town (port sulphur). it's in the middle of marshland if i remember correctly.

Must be as they still have a STA going ... accepted date was September 14,2006

Actually, with the tower coming down, that is what caused KNOU to go dark

if you check Google Earth or any satelite map reference the tower is near the protection levee, unfortunately when the storm damage photos were on line there wasn't a good shot of the transmitter site.

btw..... where are they STA'ing from?? temporary transmitter on a tower here in the city or temporary tower in port sulphur??

Only problem with the FCC site.. It will say there is a STA but never say what it's for. I know the other stations had to get grants to go on other sites so to answer your question, I don't know.

WTIX-Fm was about 10 miles north of Port Sulphur. But why would anybody want to listen? I heard D'yer Maker by Zepplin followed by Sweet & Innocent by Donny Osmond. That's worst than a freighter running throught a levee! [EDIT]
