Wasn't that the station owned by the Rivers family out of Cordele at one time?

It's owned by the Reverend Willis. Are you sure it's actually shut down? It was a combination of black gospel and preachers.

It may be owned by Rev Willis now, but I think at one time it was owned by a family out of Cordele that got in trouble with the FCC and they were forced to divest the station in the 80's.

That is correct. It was owned by one of the Rivers' brothers...I'm not sure if it was the one who was the former governor or the other one. TJH used to be domiciled in East Point. If memory serves the legendary Ned Lukens used to work there.

Ned Lukens worked at WEAS which was also Rivers owned, but by the other brother.
He may have also worked at WTJH. Some of their talent switched stations like Warren Roberts who was station manager of 1010 WEAS at one time and later worked at WTJH with a southern gospel music program.

Jim Rivers was Dee's uncle out of Cordeal I think, Dee Rivers owned EAS am and fm and a total of 11 stations up and down Ga. and Fl. Jim was the Governor Rivers Brother.

WTJH is still licensed, but they just filed an STA on 12/4 to remain silent. I recall at one time they had an STA to run flea power into a makeshift antenna due to some sort of issue with the land where the tower is/was located.

I lived in East Point, the signal from WTJH around the tower would bleed over onto other stations as you drove by. WTJH was a major "country western" station in the 50's before the new country sound of WPLO mid sixties. Ray Kinnamon hosted an afternoon show and a sponsored Marty Robbins segment. There was also a East Point barn dance show on ocassion at the old East Point auditorium. "Texas" Bill Strength was also one of the old time DJ's in WTJH's prime. I saw Bill at a filling station off Sylvan road as he was packed up and moving back to texas, had to be 69 or 70. I was working at WSSA at the time, prior to going to WPLO.
