WTKI Huntsville is off the air

Below is a copy from an e-mail regarding the shutdown. The frequencies are 1450 in Huntville and 1490 in Decatur.

The Management and Board of Directors wants to thank our very dedicated listeners and advertisers of ProTalk.

As a result of current economic conditions, we have been forced to cease operations in Decatur and Huntsville.

Any questions can be directed to [email protected]

Yet another blow to Huntsville market radio. I wonder why this station was never able to pull any ratings concidering the popular sindicated talk shows they carried. Are they gonna try to sell these stations or just keep them dark until better times allow them to come back on the air?

Don't know much about the market but ratings don't always mean $$$$ I suspect the costs to keep the stations on (despite being automated) was more than what profit they made from local advertising.

Being fairly new to the Huntsville area, I wonder if standards would work in the HSV area. With the arts, along with older / retired demographics as well with those that have moved into the area this format would seem to build a sizeable (measurable) radio audience...
