WTKK election night: Shrieking McPhee Party Time!

Tonight on WTKK Michele McPhee did her show from F1, I think, and it was basically a Brown victory party.
Now, I had no prob with the results myself but whoa, it was like a rock concert, party, or a sporting
event (SCOTT BROWN HAS WON THE WORLD SERIES!). McPhee was definitely in an up mood, and no surprise there, but if you were expecting down-to-earth election returns...ah, no.

"MICHAEL GRAHAM IS IN THE HOUSE!" (big cheer from crowd) etc.
Well, I went back and forth between that and the more conservative (in demeanor certainly) Avi Nelson on
WRKO (and some Dan Rea on WBZ, and even some WBUR). But even if you were a Brownie, Michele's
screaming, screeching voice was a bit too much!
She did kinda rub it in with colleague Margery Eagan but she said hey, they differ politically but they're
still friends, etc.

Supposedly the first media outlet to be told (by Brown) that Coakley had conceded was WRKO/Avi Nelson.
He then went on WTKK

For music WRKO had a version of Happy Days Are Here Again; WTKK had We Are the Champions and also
a bit of the country tune, "Yeah, there's something women like about a pickup man" (referring to Scott's
truck). Evidently someone from down the hall at WKLB gave em that one.

A question from California. Just out of curiosity how did Massachusetts radio handle the lead up to this election? Was there any bias in favor of or against one of the candidates? I ask because here in California the radio industry campaigned relentlessly to recall Democratic governor Gray Davis, even blaming the electricity deregulation rip off disaster on him when it had actually been Republican gov. Pete Wilson's pet project. Your Senator Brown evidently favors privatizing social security, did any of his unusual opinions like that get any coverage, or did the industry hide them from the public? Just curious.

I can't stand her voice either, but this was worth celebrating.

Some hosts were def. for Brown inc. Howie Carr/WRKO, Jay Severin, Michael Graham, Michele McPhee, WTKK;
others like the WTKK morning team were said to be more for Coakley. I would guess Jeff Santos on libtalker (brokered) WWZN prob was pitching Coakley. Dan Rea on WBZ tried to be more objective. Carr had Brown on just about every day as his poll numbers went up. At first Howie was like, "Well, it's unlikely he'll win but give em a good scare" but then he did much more to pitch Brown.

As part of that, Howie knew many Brown fans in the state would tune in...These are opinion shows. Anyone was welcome to call in and oppose him...Carr's predecessor, the legendary Jerry Williams, was a liberal turned populist who argued against seat belt laws, a prison in a town where many didn't want it, a "Congressional pay grab" (Ralph Nader freq. called in), and he opposed waste and corruption in state government and Mike Dukakis' presidential run.

I hadn't heard anything about privatizing Social Security. Much of the focus was getting the 41st vote against health care etc

Opinion shows on TV and radio can be biased but again, it's opinion...whether it's MSNBC carrying the torch for Obama or Hannity on tv and radio with the Stop Hillary Express, later the Stop Obama express. Different stations, diff. shows can offer contrasting opinions

Agreed about McPhee and last night; though while it was worth celebrating, that screeching voice... :)
Surely today Howie will have his standard lines, "I'm in a good mood and I don't know why! Well, actually I do know why..." and "My heart feels like an alligator!"

You may not realize it, but WTKK has their own page on YES.com; I guess it still registers for bumper music or whatever:

Joe Diffie's "Pickup Man" (referenced in the second post in this thread) was played twice, at 8:50 PM and again at 12:34 AM. Other songs played over the last 24 hours include Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" at 9:44 PM, Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar" at 11:21 PM, U2's "Beautiful Day" just after 7 AM this morning, and most recently, at 11:05 AM, they played "The Best Day Ever" by Spongebob Squarepants. LOL!

Yup Joe Diffie, that's the artist, all right!

We're Not Gonna Take It was Stephanie Miller's theme music, but I think it changed to Walking on
Sunshine when Obama was elected. Given MA longtime dominance by the Dem party, etc, the Twisted
Sister tune is a good get-em-riled-up choice for conservatives.

Yes it did change to Walking on Sunshine, though some listeners in the last few months have been asking to change back to "We're Not Gonna Take It".
