WTKK gives Sliwa a nightly show (10pm- 1 am)

Curtis "Raspberry Beret" Sliwa of Guardian Angel fame (well, he does wear a red beret
doesn't he?) adds more local "torrrk" for Boston. See front page of radio-info.com
Laura Ingraham will be Sunday nights only.
Not the first time someone has done a show for 'TKK from NY State, ahem!

...Eagan and Braude are far right wing? :)

Colmes would be live at least; though Sliwa is also live and allegedly local (from the city
whose major league baseball players are now playing golf)

The Chicopee Herald (where it's being printed): Where to get the full rundown on the Sox games:
"Red Sox Lead 2-1 in First Inning" :)

My reply: "Yeah, replace her with the whiny Stephanie Miller instead :)
So…Eagan and Braude are far right wing? (and Laura isn’t
whiny, unless you’re on the other side of the political
aisle, maybe…)"

Maybe I'm an antique but there was a time when voice, diction and a command of the language were minimum ante to be in radio. To host a talk show one needed a strong command of issues and could look at all issues fairly. With Silwa and The Guy from Boston who made his bones with the F bomb every other word on his dreadful web site WTKK is really lowering the bar.

Jerry Williams, Dave Maynard, David Brudnoy and the list goes on. Compare these giants to these guys. It becomes a sad picture.

"Hi howaya! You're next on Dubble ya aytch dee aytch" (Eddie Andelman)...(hired more for his knowledge of
sports than for diction?)
As for views many PDs these days may want someone who does take a side pretty much to win fans--
and even those who will tune in despite disagreeing ("I hate your show!"..."How often do you tune in?"...
"Every day"). There are extremists who get their show on that basis--Michael "Savage" Weiner and
Randi Rhodes come to mind.

There have been hosts who tried to be in the middle, like a guy who calls himself The Militant Moderate,
Alan Nathan (who is a bit of both sides: "I want the Republicans out of our bedrooms, the Democrats
out of our wallets, and both away from our first and second amendment rights"). He isn't exactly all
that widespread as someone like Rush would be. By the way, I do agree with that Nathan comment--
for this, liberals would consider me a far right wacko (for the "out of our wallets" part) and the conservatives might feel I'm not truly
right-wing**. This is the polarizing atmosphere we have these days.

**--as a f'rinstance, I just read this in a post on Free Republic: "Let's get a few things straight at the outset. There are NO Republicans in MA. There are no Conservatives in MA. A Republican in MA is a moderate liberal." (Yet "progressives" would feel that the "moderate liberal" he speaks of is a "wingnut" wacko. I'm
registered as Unenrolled as actually took a Dem ballot a couple weeks back. Mostly so I could vote against Kerry, but I digress.)

I'm surprized that WTKK would replace the highly rated Laura Ingraham show. I like Curtis, but to take off my favorite female radio host! Well, I can always hear her on 1570 AM in Beverly or 1540 AM in Newport, RI. weekday mornings 9-11AM.

Eagan and Braude are very slightly left of center. There's your moderate programming. But I'm biased because I listen to true liberals like Mike Malloy and Jeff Farias on-line. Same for Colmes... moderate. Of course, to the Freepers, anyone to the left of Michael Savage or Sean Hannity is a socialist.

Stephanie Miller should be on in this market. And she has a good radio voice.

Yeah many libs would probably consider Colmes "DINO", Dem in name only--moderate (OK, so maybe
there's one successful moderate host nationwide, though not on in Boston). On FR there are some who
are solid Savage supporters and some who consider him too extreme. There are also many on FR
who can't stand Hannity (but some supporters too). I run the Howie ping list. There are also ping
lists for Rush, Hannity, Levin, and Savage.

Last night Phil Hendrie tossed in a quick "Bush stole the election" comment, and he uses the word
"progressive" to describe his show, but he's to the right on some issues (WTKK has him)

much to my surprise, Phil's on KTLK in LA, which is the 'progressive' talk station out there.

I really enjoyed Curtis when he filled in for Jay when Jay was on vay-cay (Not this vacation...it was the last vacation....no, I know; it was the vacation before that. Anyhow, in the last month or so, you know?) Maybe he's leading a double life and he needs the time off to go maintain the other one.

I have no problem with Curtis broadcasting from New York. I had a problem with Jay posing as being from here when he wasn't.

As for Curtis doing 3 shows a day and whether that is too much, I say let him do it if he can. It's clear he enjoys talking. (I find his verbal swagger fun and I dig the NY accent.) If his talk suffers because of it, he'll have to cut back, that's all.

I find the production elements of Laura' show fun to listen to, but Laura herself annoyed me. (And I still miss O'Reilly.) However, I think Grace Blazer is doing a GREAT job there; I love the shaving down of syndication and replacement with something more local. I think Michelle is terrible, but I like her show anyhow--she has her "thing" too, and is very likeable. If a host is likeable, I'll listen regardless of whether they're "good."

Curtis has that thing Savage has; a sort of storytelling they do, each in his own way, but both with that New York thing. That's like radio theater to me. I look forward to being able to hear him on a regular basis.

Does Curtis get to use Jay Severin's Sag Harbor studio? It seems like a great place to broadcast from while pretending that you're really in Boston.

No, but he's got a sweet studio setup in his $1.2 mill digs on the upper east side.

Curtis is a big selfpromoter just like Howie. But, at least Curtis has scars to prove that he was the target of the mob.
Howie made it all up for his crappy little crayon book.

I think they are just slightly right of Fidel Castro! But they are no where near center unless your center is located in the republic of Cambridge, MA. ;D

A few months ago at the Talkers Magazine convention, Blazer herself told me that she's committed to being "live and local" on WTKK (with the exception of Imus, of course).

With that said, Sliwa is at least live, but I'm not sure how someone from Yankee country is going to fly in Red Sox Nation.

And with the guy now doing a show at 10 AM and 10 PM every day, for two markets, his sleeping pattern is going to be off the charts! Wow, God bless him!

Prob doing show from NY; can read Globe or Herald online to get the local news, and talk about it.
This is probably what was done before with his fill-ins. The technology is certainly there and it's
prob no different than someone voice tracking a music show from afar.

If McCain wins next month, will people be saying the same too?

I'll give Sliwa credit, he makes no pretense about who he is or where he is doing his show from. He even credits WABC whenever he can.
