WTKK in flux

The WTKK site says that Hannity will again be in this week during the 3-6 pm slot
and "Eagan & Braude will air live 6 - 7 PM". Still no word yet on what the situation with Severin is, but basically you have WTKK running an E&B sandwich,
with Jim and Margery at noon and six and O'Reilly and Hannity in between.
Kind of odd--doing one hour then returning at 6 pm for another. However since
the Severin matter has yet to be decided, as far as we know, this seems to be
a sign of things to come.

WTKK wants to keep Severin but Infinity would most likely want to place him on
WBZ; in addition there were the stories about "phony Pulitzers" and a master's
from B.U. that never really was. Boston Radio Watch last week speculated one
reason for Severin being kept off was the embarassing revelations, but also there's the possibility that both Greater Media/WTKK and Infinity/WBZ are
trying to work out a deal for which station would carry Severin. While all
this is being settled, WTKK has benched Severin and brought in Hannity to
pinch-hit. As BRW noted, Severin may (or may not) be a lame duck at WTKK--
and their benching of him as all this is being worked out might extend to
the end of the year.

If WBZ does wind up getting him, you might indeed see GM keeping Jay off
(but still paying him, it's in the contract) and hoping the ratings for
Hannity are at least half-decent. The word may come sooner or later as
to which station winds up with him, but according to the WTKK website it's
another week off-air for Severin. And his listeners might either stick
with the station, listening to Hannity, or maybe they'll sample Howie Carr
(or books on tape...or music stations--of which GM has a few in town, etc.)

Who is Jay Severin ?

LOL....I can't wait to see what happens, I for one am glad Severin is getting all this scrutiny, He forgot one major fact of life just like Kathie Lee did....if you put yourself up high on a pedastal and say how great you are, it's not long before you come crashing to the ground......but I digress.....

One thing I keep hearing in promos is A New Fall lineup, or an all new FM Talk, or something to that effect....so I can't wait!!!

Although they don't yet know it, Severin leaving would probably be the best thing that could happen to WTKK.

I think Carr is vunerable. His show is the same old thing week after week, month after month and a decent talk show alternative could beat the pants off of him. I think that Severin hasn't already done that shows that he's not the best man for the job.

Find a moderate to right leaning talented host that's not beholden to the Bush adminstration and exhibits some intellegence and you'll walk away with that time slot.

Don't forget....Trish the Dish introduces the Chump line at 5:10, he'll play about 6 non-funny calls, then Max Robbins!!!!!!

Dead on Al, with 1 addition: get somebody with some friggin' energy.

Extreme Talk FM....

All this Severin bashing is amusing. He is likely enjoying the fine Fall weather, collecting his weekly paycheck and laughing all the way to the bank. He schtick sells, hence the ratings. How about this....Severin does not go to WBZ...but WBCN. Extreme Talk FM format...with Severin, maybe Tom Leykis?
Thoughts/comments?

I severely doubt it.

If Infinity decides to launch an FM talk station, it will be a "mainstream" talker, likely at 100.7 (which would probably result in WZLX and WBCN being combined as a single station with a hybrid classic/modern rock format at 104.1 under the WBCN call letters) with Severin, Imus, Bill O'Reilly, and the local talk hosts now heard nights on WBZ-1030 moving over, with 'BZ becoming 24/7 all-news. Personally, I think it's a longshot.

But if Infinity decides not to change any formats, the only way 'BZ will broadcast Severin's national show is if it's live during the evening or overnight hours. They won't touch their very successful all-news block during daytime hours to run Severin if his show is live during the day.

If Severin's nationally-syndciated show is to be broadcast live during the day, it will be on WTKK.

And yes, Jay is probably laughing all the way to the band but he has nonetheless lost a lot of momentum with all the issues passing before us.

Not all conservatives agree with Bush on everything. Howie, for example,
was not too fond of the new court pick; Hannity had a wait and see attitude
but he had Mark Levin, who follows him on WABC, on, and Levin feels the
same way Howie does. Alan Colmes had said during the Clinton years that if
he disagreed with Clinton on something, he'd say so, and many conservative
hosts feel the same way re: Bush. That may sound like something to be
discussed on the Off the Air board, but I wanted to address the "not beholden
to Bush administration" bit of your post.

I still like Howie's show, repetition and all, myself. Let's hear Severin
do Menino sound bites the way Howie does.

If WKOX/WKXS had the darn signal strength....switching to Randi Rhodes at 3pm would be a easy walk away for the station....instead we have no signal and Ed Schultz filling that time.

help us out WKOX....please...drive time should have been yours a year ago...

Yeah. Signal strength sure helped them out in the Providence market.

My gut feeling is that WBZ won't go syndicated and that they also would not give up the early evening news hours to talk.

Emphasis on the programming, though.

With many CC stations putting Randi Rhodes, the network's strongest personality, on tape delay, what is Clear Channel expecting?

And by the way, Providence is not Boston.

Presumably they think they can put someone stronger in her timeslot than her, and in many cases they'd probably be correct.

> And by the way, Providence is not Boston.

No, it's even more leftist and therefore should have been much easier for AAR to gain some audience. Plus, AAR was on a station with a strong signal and good coverage.

> Presumably they think they can put someone stronger in her

Ed Schultz is seen by many AAR listeners as a liberal who is boring and has sided with Republicans on a few issues.

Rhodes is easily the best host on AAR (not necessarily WKOXKS). And in what case is Ed Schultz having success on a CC liberal talker?

> No, it's even more leftist and therefore should have been

Providence more liberal? How? At the least, the two cities have the same political climates.
